History needed[edit]

Could someone relate the origins of the Yard as a cow yard and explain how Harvard came to own it and when the first trees were planted? --Edit07 19:21, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Hammonds paper [1] is a treasure trove from which a great article could be built. EEng (talk) 22:39, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to find a deletion discussion for Radcliffe Yard[edit]

Anyone know the events that led to the deletion of the neabry-Radcliffe Yard's article? Was it a stub? or was it a worthwhile article? One that could even be brought back from a deletion (with relevent undelete discussion)? Reason being, the Radcliffe Yard area is going to be reused by Harvard it hasn't become defunt... Further, that yard and its immediate environs, following their huge refurbishment seem to be (atleast--partly) the home of the continuing ed. division of Harvard. Radcliffe Yard is very important, which those who haven't visited Radcliffe Yard may not appreciate. MaynardClark (talk) 23:26, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Panoramas (panoramae?)[edit]

My reaction was (and largely still is) as expressed in this edit summary [2]. However, I did finally realize that the right way to view them is to open the large version of the image in its own window, then pan left and right using the scroll bar. This does give a sensible view, though somewhat like being constrained to peer through binoculars instead of taking in whole scene at once. Certainly if they're going to stay we're gonna need to give the reader some "viewing instructions" and for that I suspect we'll need to kick the issue upstairs to our betters at MOS. Shall we take the bold step of removing these distorting panoramae? I don't see them as enhancing the article enough to be worth all the trouble. There are plenty of non-gimmicky images available (and we only need a few) to more than adequately highlight the subject matter of the text, with a more natural perspective. Begging the understanding of the well-intentioned editor who went to the trouble of uploading them, I have to say I'm on Hertz's wavelength on this. EEng (talk) 08:23, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If they showed anything well there might be some benefit to keeping them, but they don't. Everything is either shown at a great distance, or distorted. I'll go ahead and remove them.

Quad[edit]

Is Harvard Yard not referred to as a quad? There is no mention of it in the article, even though it is listed in the given link. Seasider53 (talk) 19:07, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Never, ever referred to that way. Any it really doesn't fit the definition, architecturally. EEng 22:44, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, there's a different part of the Harvard campus that is referred to as "the Quad". AJD (talk) 01:25, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And then, of course, there's the Radcliffe Yard. It's all so very confusing. EEng 02:57, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
