The Goodwood race and "retirement"[edit]

I have been unable to find anything substantial about Harvester after his October appearance in the sales ring. He seems to have been used up and discarded. The details on his second start at the 1884 Goodwood meeting are also very sketchy: nothing mentioned at the time, but references in the news articles on the St Leger, which say that he was beaten by Cormeille, and that he was "cruelly knocked about". We know it wasn't one of the major races as they were covered. Could it have been a match race? Tigerboy1966 (talk) 02:33, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was called "The Drawing Room Stakes" and occurred on the second day of the Goodwood meeting [1]. Apparently later sent to Hungary where he died in 1906 at 25. Froggerlaura (talk) 04:23, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was hoping you might be able to help with this. Good to know that the old boy had a lengthy retirement. My book source says he went to Austria, but the country was of course "Austria-Hungary" at that time, so it's understandable.Tigerboy1966 (talk) 09:57, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
