Literature citations

The current text says "Harvey Wallbanger appears in literature as early as 1971". According to http://www.foodtimeline.org/brandquiz.html , the Los Angeles Times gave a recipe in August 22, 1968 . That claim is repeated at http://wiki.webtender.com/wiki/Harvey_Wallbanger#Los_Angeles_Times.2C_22nd_August_1968 . I do not have access to the LAT archives to verify this.

The foodtimeline.org page also quotes a 1972 LAT article as saying "In legend, a Harvey Wallbanger is any person who has mastered the noble art of the foul up". I found a use in that sense in The Spokesman-Review - Jun 21, 1971, p8, column 1, under 'So--Just Keep Trying'. ("Add nominations for the "Harvey Wallbanger Award," 1971 edition for monumental sports goof").

"Gem of a restaurant"

There has been a recent resurgence of the Harvey Wallbanger in Buffalo NY. Particularly at a gem of a bar called Founding Fathers.'

Name

I think I read this story in "the Book of Lists" but it must be from somewhere else. Wish I had time to check. Anyway: The eponymous surfer, Harvey (his last name, first name varies) loved the "Italian Screwdriver"; even after the beach had closed, he couldn't stay off the waves. He would adjourn to his favorite beach bar, have eight or ten of these, and then get up to leave - and walk right into the wall. Ellsworth (talk) 04:49, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
