Solophi (talk · contribs) inserted a further reading to a religious philosophy book published by Solophi as an "early reference" [1] at Hawking star (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), an astrophysics article. This seems like advertising. I have deleted the link -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 05:11, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It references the page number where this theory is documented in full detail. It’s not advertising it’s referencing the book. This can be confirmed 193.237.164.43 (talk) 09:12, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The edit that added the book shows no page numbers, so there is no reference to the page number -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 01:25, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The book. Is about many topics of the creation of the universe
Exploring the Divine is a compilation of examinations and theories into the great wonders of the universe and our place in it. It explores God, The creation of the universe, Demons, Angels, Black Holes, Black Magic, The big bang, Origins of religion, possibility of the computer generated universe, time travel, space exploration, the perception of the self and a universal consciousness. If you are one of those people that is fascinated by the big questions of life, then this book will either provide answers or give you many interesting and new ways of philosophising the great mysteries of the universe. 193.237.164.43 (talk) 09:16, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How can you reference a book, if it’s not then in some way promoting a book…surely then every single link to “further reading” is advertising that book. Please clarify. 193.237.164.43 (talk) 09:24, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
193.237.164.43 (talk · contribs), are you the same person as Solophi (talk · contribs) ? These are your only edits. Further, are you the author of the book, Richard K. Page ? -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 01:25, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Self-published book with no published reviews and clearly not a science book should not be referenced in this article. Johnjbarton (talk) 02:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete the addition of that reference added by @Solophi. Independent of anything else:
  • There is no indication that it is relevant
  • There is no page number available to find specifics
  • It is not freely available so anyone can check.
N.B. it is also dubious as it is self-published. Wikipedia does not permit the use of sel published material. Ldm1954 (talk) 02:48, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Ldm1954. This book was not published by a reputable publisher, so we can't really place any confidence in it as a source. Beyond that, it does not seem likely to be relevant to the contents of this article. The issue with "advertising" is more about Solophi's motivation in adding it, and suspicion that they have a financial interest in promoting this book. We do not allow Wikipedia to be used to promote products, services, or ideas.--Srleffler (talk) 04:49, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
