Challenging the uncited claim HMOs were widespread claim: Actually, in the 90s, HMOs seriously declined, generally becoming/splitting into insurers and independent health care facilities. What were once HMOs now seem to be referred to as "integrated health". I say this as an observer of the HMOs in New England, and a former client/patient of MTHP. I'm not quite sure what should go in this entry on the history of HMOs, but this bill did both spur a lot of new HMOs as well as generate a backlash among doctors and insurers who convinced a lot of employees/patients that HMOs would kill you or were socialism. Again, my impression, but I've found little in the way of internet references. Insurers developed PPOs to compete with HMOs. Mulp (talk) 05:39, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
