Moves[edit]

Why move Eachuinn Mor Maclean to Hector Mor Maclean, 12th Clan Chief what is the evidence that this man is better known as Hector rather than Eachuinn? --PBS (talk) 10:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the changed the order of husbands of Catherine II Maclean is justified because my sources (e.g., the Calendar of State Papers, etc.), while secondary themselves, directly quote primary sources and make more sense in the overall historical context. I am very confident that these provide the most accurate overview of the marriages of Catherine II.

However, I recognize that, as currently formatted, this may read a little awkwardly because the account given under the blanket reference to John Patterson Maclean's book does not agree. On one hand, JPM provides some important detail which is not covered by my sources, but on the other hand, I believe my sources are more accurate for the marriages of Catherine II.

I would propose separately referencing the notices for each of Hector's children, except Catherine II, to JPM's book, instead of using a blanket reference. It may also improve the overall flow of the article if JPM's full account were not reproduced within the footnote. Most of this information already appears in the body of the article, and so the footnotes, as currently formatted, are a little redundant.
