English Translation in Introduction[edit]

May I respectfully recommend that:

He created the Comité d'Histoire de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale and the Revue d'Histoire
de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale.

be revised to:
"He created the Comité d'Histoire de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale (Committee for the History of the Second World War) and the Revue d'Histoire de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale (Review of the History of the Second World War)."
or whatever someone more fluent in French than I am would prefer. I realize that translating "d'Histoire" as "for the History" and "of the History" are rather loose translations. Dick Kimball (talk) 16:09, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additiional Background Information[edit]

Henri Michel... was a French historian, who studied the Second World War.

In addition:
"When Draguignan became free, one of the Committe's members, Henri Michel, went there at once to ensure that Sarie would be recognized as the new prefect until Frank Aral, designated by de Gaulle's provisional government, could take over. Michel, then a young teacher in charge of press matters for the Committee, would later become France's foremost historian of the Resistance, founder of the French Committee for the History of the Second World War, editor of its Revue, and a leading influence in accumulating documents about the Resistance. Without the archives and inquires that Michel was instrumental in developing, studies of the Resistance (such as the present one) would be immensely more difficult to achieve. This book is dedicated to Henri Michel."[1]
Draguignan is the prefectural seat of the Department of the Var. "Committee" refers to the Department Liberation Committee organized by the Resistance. An endnote to the quoted text refers to <quote>La Résistance dans le Var, 1940-1944; p. 43; Jean-Marie Guillon, '"La Liberation du Var: Résistance et nouveaux pouvoirs" Les Cahiers de l'IHTP (No. 5, June 1990), 15-16. Guillon's article represents part of a doctoral thesis, La Résistance dans le Var: Essaie d'historie politique (Aix-en-Provence, 1989). On Henri Michel's career, see A. L.
