Untitled[edit]

Just watched modern marvels and the correct name is Henry P. Phillips, didnt know how to change the title so!

I would be interested to see a photograph of Mr Phillips. He must of had a very intereting cranial structure.

So, is it Henry P. or Henry F.? I find conflicting accounts on the internet. The Phillips Screw company themselves call him Henry F. Phillips. http://www.phillips-screw.com/About.htm . Most sources seem to call him Henry F. (but most are originally based on this very article, so the reasoning is circular). Opentopia, and apparently Modern Marvels, differ, but I think they are probably wrong. Sources would be nice, if anyone has them.Novel-Technology 02:22, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inventor May Need More Research[edit]

Perhaps he didn't invent it. . . There is a Frearson also connected with it: "Thompson was beat out by the English inventor John Frearson some six years prior."

Diameters of what? The outermost diameter of the head has no importance. Theoretically size 1 could be bigger than size 3, if one wanted to make one. The thing that matters is the very tip of the tool and the thickness of the wings. There is a range of diameters for both screws AND screwdrivers for the same nominal size. To try to put dimensions on these can only end up with either incorrect information or a range so wide that it is of no use. I actually have a commercially manufactured #2 screwdriver bit which is smaller in diameter than the average #1! Incidentally, I don't think that the image of the Phillips screw on the main page is actually a Phillips! The sides of the flutes are parallel, and Phillips are not. Perhaps it is a JIS? Sizes seem to come in PH000, PH00, PH0, PH1, PH2, PH3..., but I have no definition of what these mean other than PH2 is bigger than PH1--Zarni02 (talk) 08:19, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thompson and Phillips[edit]

While these may not be considered secondary sources, do not they seem to show an earlier relationship between Thompson and Phillips? Was the Phillips Screw Company formed after, for example, Phillips agreed to finance the process of obtaining the patent? I do not know what the real story is, but to me, it is not the story found in the current article.Fotoguzzi (talk) 18:25, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
