The Fishers in Kinnelon[edit]

Here's photos provided to a blog by Herb Jr showing their house site at 628 Mountain Road, Smoke Rise, Kinnelon, Morris County, New Jersey in 1954. The commentary indicates they lived there from about 1955 on. The Smoke Rise and Kinnelon Blog: Herbert O. Fisher, Jr.

PS: The NYT obit only says that Herb Sr was living in Kinnelon when he died—it does not say when he started living there. --108.45.72.196 (talk) 06:53, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An interesting fly in the ointment[edit]

This webpage appears to indicate that HOF was involved in an accident as pilot of a C-46 on August 6, 1942 at Buffalo Airport: "420806; FISHER, HERBERT O; C-46; 41-5166; BUFFALO AP, NY". Same website, but data sorted by month instead of place: [1]. (41-5166 is the serial number of the C-46). --108.45.72.196 (talk) 23:46, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that in a book about the ace "Killer Caldwell" who was being flown on the C-46 that had a landing gear failure, that Fisher was able to bring in the aircraft in a belly landing with minimum damage. Another book about Curtiss-Wright history has a photograph of Fisher congratulating the head of the company fire personnel for their rapid response in the incident. I assumed either the stat on his record was not necessarily a continuous one, or that the accident was not chalked up against him, as it did not indicate pilot error. Fisher's son has read the article and has made some comments in an email to me. I'll ask him later about the forced landing. BTW, he has a wonderful photo of himself as a child on the wing of the "supersonic" P-47. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 12:46, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
