IMDB References[edit]

There really is no need to remove them, so I have reinstated them. The issue with IMDB is that it is not a reliable source because it is, or can be, user edited. Thus it has a value as a source, but it is not a source that is suitable for more than a mention. It needs to be backed up with other references, ideally tertiary ones. Removing them undid a great deal of useful work which I would hate to see go to waste. The IMDB references are classified as 'interesting' and 'useful', just not 'reliable'. To be clear, many editors do use IMDb but others question whether it has any value as it is edited by volunteers, much like Wikipedia. IMDb refs are routinely removed for being too weak a source. WP:RS/IMDB says "The use of the IMDb on Wikipedia for referencing is considered unacceptable and strongly discouraged." Such are the tides of WP. Span (talk) 22:13, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So we have the start of working towards a consensus on this article. I can say that I do not feel strongly about IMDB one way or the other. I reinstated the deletion edit because I felt the sources had current value, as described above. I am content that they be replaced (though I prefer that they be reinforced rather than replaced) as soon as possible by other sources. Other editors may take a firmer line than I have and insist that they be removed. I argue for retention until replacement or substantiation by WP:RS citations, but can be persuaded otherwise.
