David Barnes, Independent Candidate[edit]

In the week after the election, this page showed independent David Barnes had finished last in the constituency's election, with exactly no votes. There were many in the political blogosphere and twittersphere who linked to it and laughed at the poor man. Now his name has been removed from the aforementioned site. I notice it is not on this article either. Was it an error then? --Half Price (talk) 21:53, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at the revision history. The early BBC articles also showed zero votes and on that basis + twitter I added the candidate. The current BBC item doesn't show him.
Whatever happened he caused amusement around the world -and did absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. If others can show its wrong thats fine by me. JRPG (talk) 11:08, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can tell you exactly what happened! Mr Barnes WAS a candidate in H&S, until the deadline came for withdrawal. He did so, but this news was not picked up by the BBC. This link [1] shows that he was not a candidate at the time the polls were opened. The "mistake" was picked up by the Twitterati et. al. as though fact. Mr Barnes did not get "0" because he did not stand :) doktorb wordsdeeds 11:56, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Aha I see. Thanks for clearing that up. --Half Price (talk) 12:45, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
