Characters Section Discussion

I think 'main characters' are characters who were carried over through entire seasons or, perhaps, listed in the opening credits. All other characters (i.e.: Amanda, Fitzcairn) who visited fairly regularly are 'regular characters'. Excess Wiki Linking

Can we be careful about Wiki linking to common English words? For instance: There was no reason to Wiki link to the words men and women in the section about the Watchers. There are many other examples, but I was cleaning up the Mechanics section and got those. NetSerfer 13:19, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Resizing

From a Business Perspective

Highlander: The Series was unique to American series television. It was the first action-hour series ever produced for American audiences by a French production company, Gaumont. It was an international coproduction, and the only American entity involved was the US syndicator, Rysher, which was later bought by Paramount after The Raven had been produced. As a coproduction, it was commissioned by and produced for French, German, Canadian and Japanese television broadcasters, and broadcast in the U.S on a consortium of individual local stations across the country. In that context, for the series to have had such an impressive run of 6 seasons and one year of a spin-off was remarkable and historic and that feat has not been repeated. Original network/channel for infobox

For tv show articles on wikipedia, the infobox lists the country in which the show was produced and the network/channel that first aired the show in that country. Or in the case of international co-productions, both the producing countries and the channels that first air the show in each of these countries. Obviously Highlander is a very complicated case, but I gather that in France the early seasons were screened by TF1 and later seasons by M6. Can anyone confirm this?

Additionally, is it correct to say that the show premiered in syndation across all of the US and Canada? Or was there a Canadian network involved? If so, I guess that the Candian network should be listed with the French channels in the infobox and the syndication entry removed. --Matthew Humphreys 12:55, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

US Location

Is it ever mentioned where is Duncan and Tessa's antiques shop or where the Dojo is? (The french location is clearly Paris, but I don't recall them ever mentioning the state\city where Duncan lives in the US) OzOz 09:09, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Duncan and Tessa lived in Seacouver, so was the dojo and most of the location in the series. it's a fictional city. HoneyBee 10:11, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Quickenings

i am not sure i understand the term of 'list of quickening' you want to make. if you still want to make, please do so. in the mean time, i think it's better to keep it as it is. you should click Quickening to see whether there's a list or not. do you mean the terms like dark quickening, double quickening or....for example duncan killed so and so in every episode? i think the list is too long, it would be better to put the 'list' of immortals/duncan that got quickening in the episode page. whadaya' think? As you have probably noticed, I deleted this request. However, I'd like to mention other death-lists in wikipedia which appear to work fine - List of Oz Deaths and List of deaths in The Sopranos series. OzOz 17:18, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Shortening Fictional Universe

I've decided to cut several info on the section "Fictional Universe". There's a lot that is repeated in the Immortal page and doesn't need to be there. Since the page is so big it would help a lot. Secretaria, 19:05, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Untitled

Would anybody other than myself want to have a section on "Highlander" the Music. I have tried in vain to find the name of the piece of music in the begining of "Homeland". I love many of the pieces that Queen did for the show and have always loved "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. Played in the episode in which Tesa was killed Patgetty 04:03, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Removed trivia section

The trivia section has been removed, as WP doesn't really endorse them. Notability checking, citation work and converting into prose will need to be accomplished before any of this can return to the article.

Trivia

  • The series shared the film's theme song, Queen's "Princes of the Universe". In addition the song "Who Wants to Live Forever", featured prominently in the movie, was used in the series. Also, the song "Don't Lose Your Head" could be heard in the "Free Fall" episode, guest starring rock star Joan Jett.
  • The episode "Avenging Angel" features a swordfight between Immortals that appears to be on holy ground — however, the site is actually a Knights Templar museum displaying religious artifacts from the Crusades. The Knights Templar were excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church, and thus a loophole from the "holy ground" concept emerges. The confusion arises because footage from this fight is seen in the opening credits of later episodes as the narrator speaks of holy ground.
  • "Comes a Horseman," "Revelation 6:8," "Band of Brothers," and "Homeland" are held by many fans to be perhaps the best episodes of the series.[citation needed]
  • Singers who have appeared as guest/regular characters:
  • The character "Duncan MacLeod" was ranked #11 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends" (1 August 2004 issue).
  • Werner Stocker (Darius) was unable to shoot the last episode of the first season "The Hunters," due to cancer. That episode, which opened with his character's murder, edited together existing footage from earlier episodes for the first scenes. Stocker died by the time the episode was aired on TV. Although his character had been always planned to die, his role in that episode was originally to be much larger.
  • Jim Byrnes, who plays Joe Dawson, also contributed many songs to the show's soundtrack. Some of these can frequently be heard as background music during scenes in Joe's bar.
  • Early in the second season, Alexandra Vandernoot told the producers she didn't want to be on the show anymore — which lead the writers to kill her character off in "The Darkness."
  • The pilot episode, "The Gathering," was originally intended as the third "Highlander" sequel, a TV-movie with a two-hour running time. Eventually, the budget was too low, and Christopher Lambert didn't agree to star until late in production, so the idea was scrapped and the episode teleplay was rewritten down to an hour.
  • "Archangel" was to be a cliffhanger setting up Season 6. After Duncan kills Richie, he retreats to a monastery for one year. Season 6 picks up after that year, and Ahriman has taken control over most of the world. There is a rebellion. Joe and Methos find Duncan in the monastery, and talk him into getting back into the fight. Season 6 was to concern that struggle. Apparently, Adrian Paul wanted less involvement in Highlander so he could pursue his movie career. Thus, a new, more-truncated ending to the series was designed.
  • According to series swordmaster Bob Anderson, the sparking effects when swords clashed were generated by hooking one sword up to the positive terminal of a 12-volt battery, and the other sword up to the negative lead. In some cases, when this was unfeasible, special effects were added in post-production.
  • The number of immortals in the series is implied to be substantially larger than the Immortals in the movies. In Highlander: Endgame, Duncan is said to have beheaded around 176 Immortals (whilst in the series, it seems more due to his renewed activity in the 1990s). Connor MacLeod scored around 260 Quickenings, and their rival, Jacob Kell, an astounding 666 Quickenings. It is also implied that Methos probably has the largest numbers of Quickenings, due to his old age, but is perhaps not necessarily the strongest.
  • If you add up the number of Quickenings Duncan has experienced, the number of Connor's, and Jacob Kell's, which Duncan received from beheading both men, the number reaches 1,104.
  • The episode "Band of Brothers" shows the battlefield of Waterloo covered with snow, despite the fact that the battle happened on June 18, 1815, in the warmest time of year. Producer Bill Panzer recounts that a heavy snowfall happened the day before filming.[1]

Books Note

Should we note that two seperate novels were, Higlander: Barricades and Highlander: The Eye of The Dawn we're both announced but neither released. I'm not sure if its notable enough to worry about, though there are sources. Hooper (talk) 16:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Highlander on Hulu = US only

There's a link leading to the Highlander's section of Hulu.com. However, the episodes can only be viewed by US residents. I added "(United States only)" to the link's description, but this change has been reverted because it seems I don't have any source to support this claim.

I'm kind of lost here. Clicking on the link does lead me to the episodes section and when I try to view one, it says that I can't watch them because I'm not living in US. Talk about ironic, considering it's a France/Canada coproduction.

Maybe I'm missing something (I'm relatively new to editing Wikipedia), but to me, it's like having to prove that a blue bird is blue. I mean, isn't the website itself enough of a proof? JohnnyTheWolf (talk) 19:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Johnny is right, Hulu works only for the US, it says so in their About page. I don't think it needs to be linked in the External links section, because I used the same link in Highlander: The Series (season 1) and no reviewer at FLC asked me to source that. Episode Order

Hey Secretaria...it seems there is an episode missing from Highlander: The Series (season 5). According to IMDb, episode 17 is "Double Jeopardy" which corresponds to the episode list on Hulu (Fancast) also. On a much less important note, the "original air dates" listed on IMDb don't match the ones listed here. For accuracy's sake, do you know which is correct? Thanks so much! Question value of these critics

When critics have long-standing TV shows on national networks, or have published books, their opinions obviously have some merit that appeals to a large public. The same cannot be said for "DVD Verdict", as far as I know, along with others. Comments such as "let’s be honest: Adrian Paul, the lead, is not an interesting actor", from Carlo Cavagna of "About Film" seems to fly in the face of popular opinion. This very expensive show ran for years with a lead who was uninteresting?

Please don't Wiki babble that any opinionated, biased opinion that's in print must be acceptable because it's given a citation. The sources seem to be WP:BIAS, WP:ESSAY, and possibly WP:COI. (Nothing like making a name for yourself by attacking a popular institution.) In any event, the criticism section needs to be trimmed to a few well-chosen sentences that represent the *typical* response of critics. Narration credit correction?

I apologize, this seems like the right place to put this, but I thought the opening narration for all of season 2 and 3 was by Christopher Lambert? The words are definitely correct, but that sure doesn't sound like Jim Byrnes and does sound a lot like Lambert. From season 4 on the opener definitely sounds like "Joe" and he even takes first person credit for who he is, "I am a watcher..." Can someone verify, perhaps my ears just really want it to be Lambert? Thanks. Lightningblue (talk) 05:14, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Also it says "The Highlander: The Series novels are canon." but thats not true because the books are about Duncan, and there is no Duncan in the original Highlander film which is considered canon and a standalone movie. Season 6

The "Season 6" section ends in the middle of a sencence. A quick web search shows that the text is mostly identical with [1], where the full sentence is "In the end, it is Grant who dies and the two Immortals combine to recover the missing millions.". However, that webpage isn't cited as a source anywhere in the article, as far as I can see, so I'm not quite sure what the correct thing to do would be here... --Adaklan (talk) 22:54, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Adaklan has no other edits, so I'm not sure who will be interested in this. I checked his source. It's more complete than the Wikipedia section was, in the same voice. So it's definitely copyright violation. I removed it. 76.102.1.129 (talk) 03:27, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Coordinate error

It depends on which part of the series you're referring to. At times, it was closer to that bridge. Other times, it was closer to Notre Dame. - Denimadept (talk) 18:00, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Since there doesn't appear to be agreement that the coordinates are erroneous, I'm deactivating the {{geodata-check}} template so that this thread will not unnecessarily attract the attention of coordinate fixers.
