The image you put up was a blatant violation of WP:FU and had a false license. It was unusable. Please refrain from commenting until you have read WP:FU as you have been asked to do several times. Only freely-licensed images may be used to depict a living person, not a copyrighted image with missing source, a false license, and no rationale (though as it is not freely-licensed, no rationale would be sufficient). --Yamla 03:19, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Gay Icon?

Somebody added "Gay Icon" to Hilary's categories. Is this actually true?

Well, she has most likely made more money in one childhood than you or I will make in a lifetime of Sundays. If the ability to do that is not a talent, what is it?

Middle name

I believe that there was a competition held on her official website. Her fans were asked to guess her middle name and through that it was announced that her middle name is actually Erhard, or so I've heard. Many of her fan sites cite her middle name as 'Erhard' as well.

I have removed all of the redundant data from her discogrpahy section. All of this, is and should be on the individual album pages. Vocal class and range

Hilary was classified as a soubrette, which I didn't disagree with until I realized she hit a B6? When did she do that? What song and where can I hear it? That would make her a minimum of a full mezzo-soprano, and most likely a coloratura. Antares33712 17:26, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

I think she's a soubrette (which Britney and Ciara are ruling nowadays) and this range info is really bogus. Ashanti has range, I've heard it, but I have never heard Hilary sing anything other than as a pop soubrette. If it is bogus, sorry I helped it along. Middle name

There's been some editing and reverting regarding her middle name(s). Most of the time, it says "Hilary Ann Duff", but sometimes it's "Hilary Ann Lisa Duff" or "Hilary Erhard Duff". Does anybody have a definitive source on what her actual full name is? *Dan* 02:18, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

I have a radical suggestion to make: maybe we could just say "Hilary Duff" in the intro, and then talk about the middle name in an "early life" section? It's a bit of a departure from the Wikipedia standard style, but with the way it is now we have people always coming along, being appalled that her middle name could be something so strange sounding, and changing it back to Ann. I have removed the discography section from the article. This is because several editors (mostly anons) are constantly altering sales and chart positions of Duff's albums and singles, and with no source to look back to, there's no way to verify these changes. Yeah, jmccoymoniz is right. You just can't take down the whole discography section. It's one of the more important article in the whole topic. The album and single positions are good. Santa Clause achieved gold certification, Metamorphasis 3x Platinum and Hilary Duff and Most Wanted both achieved platinum sales.

The chart positions and certifications for Duff's records can't be correct all the time if people keep altering them day to day (apparently, Hilary Duff is both platinum and two times platinum, according to this article). My removal of the section was in keeping with Wikipedia's guidelines about this sort of dispute. As Yamla said, if you know which ones are right and which ones aren't, please cite your sources (as you are requested to every time you edit a page) so that other edits have something to refer back to in the future. Discography and other changes.

Hey. Someone came in and changed lots of stuff that was inacurate. For example someone at the beginning wrote, "three number one albums in u.s", while it was only 2. And some headings were changed too and I fixed those.

In the discography section, U.S. Chart Positions for album, sales, certification, and single chart positions weren't there. I added some that I new 100% but for album sales I wasn't exactly sure, so if someone can edit those for me that would be great. All other artists have all that info. on their page so I thought we could add it to Hilary's too.

Her upcoming album due in fall of 2006 currently has no name and was incorrectly named on the website, I have changed it to "Unknown Title".


Weight issue

Earlier today User:Zoe reverted what looked to me like a reasonable bit of info about Hilary losing weight. [3] I haven't heard this, and it should have a source, but if it's true it should be included. Since she reverted that, there's been repeated vandalism to the intro calling Hilary "skeletor". My theory is that if we include proper weight loss info in the article, maybe the "skeletor" vandals will see that their insults are represented (in NPOV form) and quit vandalizing. I was just browsing, and I noticed that in the introduction, it mentions that Duff has had a "moderately successful music career." Now, this is perhaps somewhat POV, but how can one label a music career as just "moderately successful" when that music career has yielded two number one albums, three Platinum records and two Top 40 hits? Timeline merge

I've suggested merging Hilary Duff timeline into this article. I was tempted to AfD it, but despite the year-by-year breakdown of how old Ms. Duff was in any given year, it does contain potentially useful information on her career towards the end. Powers 22:15, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

I dont think we should merge the two page together. The timeline is too big. Besides it's like the hurricane pages. And it will get longer too as she progresses into 2007, 08, 09, 10 ,11, 12. And there is soooooo much that still needs to be edited onto that tinmeline as well. Plus it's going to be edited a lot better when I get done with it. Tcatron565

I also oppose the merge. But I think the timeline will have to be much improved to justify its existence. Reciting individual episodes, and birthdays, is a little excessive. I have doubts about adding Duff to Category:Harvard alumni, as I don't think the online program[4] she took really qualifies. But, the category doesn't really have a definition for alums. So, I'm trying to start a discussion at Category talk:Harvard alumni over what the criteria should be. As for this article, at a minimum, we should mention Harvard in the body of the article, if the category is going to be used. I have noticed that people are lying about the RIAAs. I have tooken the liberty of how to use it.

  1. go to the searchable database
  2. in the artist box, type Hilary Duff
  3. click search at the bottom of the page
  4. a new page will ull up and it will show all of duff's certifications

Album Sales

I have seen that album sales on Duff's discography, but when I click on any of the links that prove it, I see nothing about Duff's album sales. Just chart posistions. I can also prove the sales for Hilary Duff is worng. It's not 2.0 million because, then on the RIAA Searchable database it sould say 2x platinum. But it only says platinum, which means the sales is under 2.0 million. Unless you guys are rounding, then it's wrong. Tcatron565

Well it is quite common to mention how albums do in individual countries in wiki pages. This article mentions how her album did in the US, UK, Australia and NZ (possibly others but I just looked briefly). Someone seems to have remove the Ecuador bit however. If he album didn't do particularly well in Ecuador and given that Ecuador is not an English native country or a country that we would expect to be interested in Hillary Duff albums, then I would agree, it isn't necessary. However, if it did well, then IMHO, it just as relevant as info on how her album did in the US, UK, Australia or NZ... Nil Einne 14:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Middle name

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilary_Duff#Early_life_and_career contains the footnote about Erhard. I see no reason why this needs to be on the second word in the article. The problem is that her middle name is frequently changed. With the reference right there, such changes are nothing other than deliberate vandalism. With no citation offered there, people may legitimately change the middle name to Anne because they are mistaken. I agree with Yamla. Although Erhard is quickly entering into the public eye (the IMDB's changed it now, too), we still need the citation because it's still an issue. Cleaned up

I cleaned up the page... per my own clean up order. Sourced certain sections. Also something that needs to be sourced:

  • "Duff also has German ancestry on the part of her maternal grandmother, Amy Beulah Schlemmer."
  • I also find it funny that no one has removed something about Duff having a best friend called "Susmita Shenoi", no doubt submitted by Shenoi.
  • Also, the references should probably be cleaned up and put in line.

Current Picture

Failed GA

Problems -

  • Lack of fair use rationales.
  • Lack of references in sections, awful formatting overall, please choose a uniform style.

The article just feels in parts very POVish, whether its because of what Duff is commented on saying or otherwise, the areas about her personal seem more harassing than neutral, and this throws the entire article off. The article needs a copyedit, the grammar is dodgy, there are several places where there should be commas, but aren't.

Old Picture?

The previous picture (one at the bowling event) was flagged as having "questionable licensing". I found one picture of Hilary Duff that originated from the US Military, which is public domain according to the Copyright Law and fully compatible with the policy of Wikipedia. Murder Plans

"Hilary Duff was saved yesterday (05.11.06) from an alleged stalker who had planned to kill her.

The 'Cheaper by the Dozen' actress took out a restraining order against Maksim Miakovsky last month and the 18-year-old Russian immigrant was arrested on Friday (03.11.06) after he revealed he planned to kill the teen star at a public event she was due to attend.

It has been revealed that on Friday a private investigator from Sunset Protective Services contacted Miakovsky at the Residence Inn motel and Miakovsky stated his intention of killing Duff on Sunday (05.11.06).

Miakovsky was arrested at the motel and is currently being held on $200,000 bail at the Manhattan Beach jail after being charged with making criminal threats and stalking.

Duff, 19, and her boyfriend, Joel Madden, took out the restraining order because they feared Miakovsky planned to kill them.

Legal papers filed by Duff alleged that Miakovsky had "stated his intention of 'removing' his 'enemies' (i.e. those who prevent him from being with Duff), stated his intention of purchasing a weapon and threatened to kill himself and to engage in dramatic actions to get her attention."

Duff also alleges in legal documents that Miakovsky came to the US "for the sole purpose of meeting and becoming romantically involved with Ms. Duff".

Chart deletion

In case anyone is wondering, I deleted the chart info because it's on the discography page anyway. There's no need for all that info to be on Hilary Duff. If anyone wants to add a bit more info, like main chart positions, go ahead. I just did it this way because it was the simplest for me. Beat of My Heart Released in UK/New Picture

Wasn't it released in the UK because the references are even from reviews of the song from the UK. I keep on putting the date it was released and people tell me it's wrong.
