Lack of quality source material[edit]

Is it really possible that this article cites only one book? Surely we can do better for such a significant figure in American and Californian history. There is even a list of potential sources in the article, but none are used.-A-M-B-1996- (talk) 19:57, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For the reasons set forth in the article, perhaps? The man was governor of California, a US Senator, ran for Vice President on the Bull Moose ticket in 1902, and nearly won the Republican nomination for President in 1910. He is an important historical figure. - Dank

1936 endorsement of FDR?[edit]

Where is the source for this out of curiosity I don't see it listed? In his public letters he is repeatably attacking FDR's corrupt political practices and in November 1936 seemed upset that he was re-elected. I understand he supported FDR in 1932, but by 1934 he appeared to already have reservations saying he might end up like Woodrow Wilson and by 1936, at least privately was claiming FDR was a dictator. This negative impression continued for the remaining of his life and he even openly supported Wilke in 1940 despite not being much of a fan of Wilke either.

Name[edit]

Pure curiosity here, but given that he was born right after the Civil War, is it known if he was named after Ulysses S. Grant, whose birth name was Hiram? It seems a totally plausible theory but I'd like to know if there's any actual evidence on why his parents gave him that name. NicolinoChess31415926 (talk) 06:23, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
