With all apologies to Hugh Johnson, the term "Dark Ages" should be removed from this section. It has been considered, by the majority of scholars for the better part of the last 100 years, as an innacurate perjorative term. The preferred terms are Late Antiquity and/or Early Middle Ages. For more info, see the Dark Ages page where the term is discussed.

I have just now rewritten that part of that section. Aside from a couple changes, I belive I have kept the thrust of Johnson's material intact. --Josh (talk) 14:51, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alienor vs. Eleanor[edit]

I was somewhat surprised to see the use of the old French spelling of Eleanor of Acquitaine's given name in this article. This is the English language version of Wikipedia, and even the biographical article for Eleanor bears the medieval/modern versions of her English language name. The use of the archaic French version of her name seems both inconsistent and affected. TheWineBuff (talk) 19:02, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
