[12] points to a Phrasee article that has been removed, and now redirects to an unrelated "History of Email" article. There is an archive.org capture of the article from 25 Sep 2020 that could be used instead.

Is this due weight?

"Me at the zoo" is technically not the first YouTube video

There were several test videos of equipment and such that were released in February and March but deleted just before "Me at the zoo."

Section move proposal

I propose that section Creators be moved to YouTuber. These sections are more related to the topic of YouTuber than this page. I would also support some material remaining here if it is relevant to the history of YouTube and can be incorporated into the rest of the article. However, I think this section should mostly be moved to YouTuber. Alduin2000 (talk) 13:35, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

support This makes sense. The "creators" section is about YouTube content creators, which is what a YouTuber is. I think that the "history of YouTube" article should still link to the YouTuber article because there is no separation of the community and the platform, but as the community has its own article, content about the community goes there. Support Most of this article is related to YouTube's history as a company. With that in mind, some of the earlier material related to advertising and the Partner Program could be integrated elsewhere in the article, but I think that YouTuber is definitely a more relevant place for the rest of the section. On the table in the Internationalization section of this article, there are three missing countries (Venezuela, Papua New Guinea, and Bangladesh), even though I don't know the exact date of when they were added to YouTube. True… I'll be more specific about what needs to be changed. In the Internationalization section, the Countries with YouTube Localization table should be changed to add these at the end:

Venezuela	Spanish	?
Papua New Guinea	English	?
Bangladesh	Bengali	?	Last location

Right below this, the sentence "…including Amharic, Albanian, Armenian, Bengali, Burmese, Khmer, Kyrgyz, Laotian, Mongolian, Persian and Uzbek…" should be changed to remove Bengali. ConnerMiner (talk) 17:44, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Question

How do people get the dates for the Internationalization section of the article, especially when there are no news articles explaining when YouTube launches a localized version of their site for another country? Because I noticed that many of the later countries, such as Costa Rica and Liechtenstein, have dates mentioned despite there being no announcements of them getting local versions of YouTube (at least as far as I'm aware). Also, Cambodia and Laos recently got local versions of YouTube, which I noticed yesterday, but again, no announcements marking the exact date. ConnerMiner (talk) 12:31, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

YouTube did not remove the dislike function. They removed the ability to see how many dislikes a video got, the button to "dislike" a video still exists and functions. InfiniteNexus (talk) 01:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

The player timeline history picture is... inaccurate

The last entry on the image, "since 2015", is not the current design of the YouTube player. The modern one still looks similar to the one labelled "2013-2015". New source with an estimate for growth over time, etc.

There's a new paper in the Journal of Quantitative Description: Digital Media that tries to answer basic statistical questions about YouTube by generating and analyzing a large random sample. I think some of it might be useful on this page, especially e.g. the site's estimated growth over time (I already shared it on the main YouTube article talk, where it's probably most relevant).

I have a COI, which is why I'm putting it here instead of adding it myself, but it seems like a useful addition to the article.

Oh, and while the journal, which is open access, is licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, I'm pretty confident there wouldn't be an issue getting any of the figures uploaded to Commons with a compatible license if requested. Cheers. — Rhododendrites ^talk \\ 16:05, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
