Re merging suggestion - I considered adding the original material to the History of Virtual Learning Environments page at the time I created the History of Personal Learning Environments. Factors which influenced me not to do this were as follows:

  1. A Personal learning environment is a different beast to a virtual learning environment. Asserting that they are the same is, say, a bit like saying a blog is a wiki.
  2. A political/economic/ motive, thinking that before long we would have a Blackboard moving into the personal learning environment area, and I wanted to forestall the inevitable corporates claim to patent a PLE by having it clearly laid out that there was prior art in the area. Sure the political argument is not sufficient on its own to prevent merrging, but dont forget, it was a similar motivation that resulted in the establishment of the Hist of VLE page, to provide evidence against the Blackboard Patent.

I move that 1 is a strong enough argument to maintain the pages as separate Mark vH

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

Merger[edit]

Article has a WP:OR tag from February 2010. I am presently working through it to see what meets pillars. Given the above comment about a possible merger some ago, the "reasons" this article exists are 1) a banana is not the same as a pear; 2) political motivation. Argument 1 is invalid if PLE is not defined: the literature in the references in the article seems to suggest it isn't a defined term or concept. Argument 2 is acknowledged already as insufficient. There are lots of deadlinks and considerable WP:SYNTH. FeatherPluma (talk) 04:33, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is no meaningful content left in this article after iterative application of WP:5P2. Accordingly, I will merge it to Educational technology without waiting for any comment period. This merger is without prejudice to the article being started over with fresh references in the future if appropriate. FeatherPluma (talk) 20:10, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
