Article status[edit]

I have removed the PROD. This article was originally lifted from the history section of the Ireland national rugby union team article, as the edit summaries make clear. But then the history section of the main article was trimmed significantly, removing about 15kB of text. If you still think there is too much overlap, you may want to consider trimming further the history section of the main article, which is still a bit longer than it needs to be.

Also, next time you propose deleting an article, please consider extending the courtesy of notifying the author and any substantial contributors. Or even better, raise the issue on the article's talk page first. CUA 27 (talk) 00:20, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the considerate response. Despite a decade on this site, it's the first time I've suggested deletion and the procedures are quite obscure to non-expert users. Not informing authors wasn't a lack of courtesy; I went to half a dozen pages or so just to find the PROD procedure, which put me off going to the extra effort of finding out how to notify editors.

The fact is, I went to the main page, didn't find what I was looking for, and came to this page and discovered that the content was pretty much identical. To make this page worthwhile, it needs to be very different from the main page and contain a lot more information (at least, in my opinion it does). You say the article was "trimmed significantly", but at casual glance they looked pretty much the same. Patrick Neylan (talk) 20:22, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No worries about the PROD. If there is material missing from this History article that you think ought to be added that would improve this article, have at it. Also, if you find the history section of the main article re Ireland national rugby union team a bit long, feel free to trim. I trimmed a little more just now, and would encourage you to do the same.
