Mischaracterization?[edit]

At present the article contains the following sentence: "Institutions such as The New School for Social Research, International Institute of Social History, and departments of "social research" at prestigious universities were meant to fill the growing demand for individuals who could quantify human interactions and produce models for decision making on this basis."

I highly doubt that the New School for Social Research might be categorized in this way. It certainly is not at the forefront of the "quantificability" of social sciences now, and even more certainly it wasn't when it was founded by heterodox marxists philosophers fled from Germany. If anything, the critical theory, of which arguably the New School is the most important center in the world, is the one approach which is more hostile to the kind of social science described in that sentence.

Reconcilation with Social sciences article[edit]

"Social science" as an umbrella term vs "Social science" as sociology[edit]

This article seems to trip over itself by confusing the comparatively recent and Anglo-American umbrella term, "social sciences" - an attempt to reconcile disciplines like economics and anthropology and stick them under one roof - with the original sciences of society, found in the work of Comte, Marx, Durkheim, and Weber, that is sociology. Agree; although it tends more towards the sociology than the umbrella in my view. To be honest I seriously doubt whether we can compile a coherent history of social sciences that include sociology, economics and psychology without having the synthesise (i.e. do original research) that from histories of these separate sciences. Perhaps better to merge whatever is relevant into history of sociology and end this articleArnoutf (talk) 21:03, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
