Only one species of Hog-nosed skunk?[edit]

It appears that recent work[1] has established that the western and eastern hog-nosed skunks are the same species, and that C.leuconotus (Eastern Hog-nosed Skunk) is the correct name. Should we redirect pages, and if so, to where? Dionyseus 23:00, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Wikiproject[edit]

I wanted to make a wikiproject about ferrets and weasels but it became to small a range so i have made a bigger wikiprojects including all animals in the Musteloidea super family which include both ferrets and weasels and much similar animals. Support would be appreceated.

This new wikiproject includes all skunks

you can find it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Weasels

i also made a little template for the project,

This article is within the scope of the Weasel WikiProject, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of articles relating to Ferrets, Weasels, and other Weasel like friends. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks.

I hope you like it.

This wikiproject is for the superfamily of Musteloidea which currently and surprisingly does not have an article yet. This superfamily includes ferrets and weasels and all of our other furry little weasel like friends. Please put your name on it so this article could have it's very own wikiproject outside of wikiproject animals.

western hog nosed skunk[edit]

I am a smoker and have recently discovered that I have a collection of at least four Hog Nosed Skunks that love to feed in my backyard. My presence does not phase them. As I walked to the edge of my deck just last night I stopped at the edge of the stairs that lead to my yard I looked down as I exhailed from a puff and not three feet from me on the second stair of three was one of the skunks. I backed up slowly anyway. I know they are hognosed because they are digging up my yard all night long, in addition to the huge all white tails. My deck was built over an existing concrete set on stairs which over time the soil underneath has washed away leaving a perfect den. I have not risked crawling under my deck to check. Can I make any observations that may be helpful to anyone? It seemed to me that not much is known specifically about the hognosed skunk. I was also wandering if anyone has heard of people getting the skunks to interact with them, if only to walk up sniff and walk away. I truly believe most animals can sense ill intentions of predators. I just want to know if I would be warned before sprayed? anyone out there care about skunks?

May I ask what were you smoking? Just to be sure you really saw skunks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.87.19.206 (talk) 01:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
