"Back" incorrect[edit]

"The island was given as a gesture of goodwill back to China" For a start, the Chinese state from 1947 onwards is completely differnet to any which existed before then - after all, it was formed from a coup / revolution and seizure of power by violence. But, the territories on the mainland were leased from the earlier China - the island never was. It wasn't given "back". It was never ever owned by China, in either form of its governments. It was totally illegally "given" by the disgraced Bath MP Chris Patten (who very quickly lost his seat, not least due to his then-perceived betrayal of the Hong Kong people), without any authority. 2.31.164.76 (talk) 19:52, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The PRC government is the legal successor to the Qing rule, by both convention and international law, recognised as such by the UN, etc.
we might not like it but it’s a fact. 203.145.94.124 (talk) 03:21, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Still a British Colony[edit]

It was handed over "in perpetuity", so it's still British, isn't it? --91.5.96.37 (talk) 15:00, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No. (Have a look at Hong Kong Act 1985, for instance). 220.246.52.181 (talk) 08:00, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't matter anyway - the Red Chinese don't recognize Imperial treaties. And, or course, might makes right in this case. HammerFilmFan (talk) 14:35, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suburbs and localities section[edit]

The list contains original research.... Matthew hk (talk) 15:02, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need any OR to compile such a list. They are available on many websites and are generally known in common usage. 220.246.127.64 (talk) 08:00, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You need to prove reliable source to verify.....pretty sure the list omit some place name and instead revived some obsolete one Matthew hk (talk) 02:52, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You'd better take a look at List of areas of London, List of neighbourhoods in Toronto, List of Manhattan neighbourhoods, Neighbourhoods in New York City. 220.246.127.64 (talk) 06:22, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Post WWII?[edit]

The article does not seem to include any history post WWII. In particular it mentions nothing about the transition from the UK to China. The link to 'British Colony' does not treat the post-war era either.

I did eventually find Wiki pages that do cover this era, for example 'Handover of Hong Kong'. Perhaps they could at least be linked. 94.247.186.130 (talk) 20:04, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
