Concept Album?

Is this a concept album? If so, how? I'm referring to it being categorized under "Concept Albums" at the bottom of the album's wiki page. It's also listed on the List of Concept Albums wiki page. The13thzen (talk) 00:45, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it needs explaining in the article. There's some material here: [1]. SilkTork ✔Tea time 22:21, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Notes.

"The words "it's in the trees, it's coming!" heard at the beginning of the title track are from a British horror movie of the 1950s called Night of the Demon, but not sampled directly."

The page for the single release of the song states otherwise and has citations to back it up.

As it currently stands this is a direct conflict of information- I'll remove the above quote here for now for reinsertion pending back up with a citation if possible. If reinserted after credibility is proven please fix HoL single page too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by StevenEdmondson (talkcontribs) 21:11, 5 September 2008 (UTC) StevenEdmondson (talk) 21:14, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

extra tracks

Isn't there a version of the album which was released in the mid 90s which has bonus tracks including 'My Lagan Love', 'Under the Ivy', and remixes of 'The Big Sky' and 'Running Up That Hill'? You're thinking of one of the discs from "This Woman's Work" boxed set.

Capitalisation

The album cover clearly shows "Hounds Of Love" rather than "Hounds of Love"; is the lowercase O a Wikipedia convention or an oversight? --Greg K Nicholson

Problem with tone

This article looks too much like a review of Hounds Of Love instead of an encyclopedia article. Could someone change this? Inkbottle 15:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree! I wondered where to add some information but could not fit it into the "review" so I restructured the article a little bit. I hope the new "track notes" section helps. --Adoniscik(t, c) 04:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Best Albums lists

I know they're on just about every article and I'm wasting my time but anyway I'd like to protest those self-important Best Album lists playing any part in this article. Or any other. Ho-hum. 41.241.50.80 (talk) 14:13, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Echosmokes edits

In the cited interview from 1985, as well as other interviews at the time, Kate did talk extensively about the night of dreams and nightmares, her desire to express the dream state as hallucinatory and frightening, with the awakening to a bright dawn and the giving of thanks for the love of family meant to give a sense of relief for having awakened and being conscious again. Sadly, many of these references are not available online, but the lyrics are clear enough that it's not POV to talk about them in brief (a few words are all that were here). Gaffaweb is the best site for finding old interviews reprinted, and I've been searching for old interviews and reviews, but have been away from Wikipedia for awhile and haven't finished finding them for this and other album pages. It is not considered a "fan site," but rather the online authority for all matters Kate Bush. I have been trying to get these album articles expanded, with greater detail and more information and sources of interpretation of the work, as this album is generally considered her masterpiece (though Aerial is a close second--or The Dreaming, depending on who you ask!). I will find the citation for the German words; please give me a few days to work on this article some more. Thanks.--TEHodson 07:07, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Genre?

Can we all agree that the genre needs to be modified? Simply calling this album 'pop' is insufficient. The cited article uses the term 'progressive pop' (which I think fits better) and art-rock should be added (to describe the second side specifically). 99.229.213.1 (talk) 07:29, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

No. The AllMusic source says the following:
  • "But Hounds of Love was more carefully crafted as a pop record..."
  • "...and it abounded in memorable melodies and arrangements, the latter re/flecting idioms ranging from orchestrated progressive pop to high-wattage traditional folk..."
  • "Bush never lets the material get too far from its pop trappings and purpose."
  • "...this record [is] wonderfully overpowering as a piece of pop music."
It's clear that when "progressive pop" and "traditional folk" are mentioned, the reviewer is talking about the various song arrangements that can be found on the album. At least one of the songs has a progressive pop arrangement, and at least one of the songs has a traditional folk arrangement. The reviewer is not talking about an overall album genre here. Instead, it's as clear as day that he is enthused about the album being the epitome of pop, the brightest and most brilliant example of pop. Binksternet (talk) 08:39, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't mean to offend anybody here, but I've never understood the importance to some people of the "correct" music genre to place in the infobox – I'd much rather concentrate on improving the article itself. Over recent months I've added reviews to the reception section and in my sandbox I'm currently working on the track-by-track composition: I really think that this article could (and should) be a GA at some point. Richard3120 (talk) 18:02, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
We have New York Times article. [2] The following:
  • "...she builds upon a long tradition of primarily British (but see also the Canadian Miss Mitchell and the American Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa for North American variants) tradition of folk-based, elaborate and ornate art-rock."
  • "She also shows a winning sureness in her deployment of minimalist rock textures." -- 115.164.218.81 (talk) 04:58, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
I think the NYT source is very clear about its assessment as art rock. That leaves us editors to the task of deciding what is more important, art rock from NYT or pop music from AllMusic. Which one is first? Binksternet (talk) 06:18, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
I have removed the art rock genre tag, as the album doesn't contain many elements of rock. Instead, I've replaced it with art pop, something Kate Bush's music is often cited as an example of, and something that better describes the sound of the album. Morfph (talk) 23:31, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
