I'm referring to the way the family spelled their names, and their mother tongue. Meghem, of which the Brimeu family held the County, was a French speaking exclave in the northern part of the Duchy of Brabant, on the river Meuse. Flanders is more of a 19th-20th century term, though there was an original County of Flanders. My particular interest is in Marie de Brimeu, who was French speaking. Brimeux itself is actually in modern day France, in the Pas-de-Calais, and no Dutch has been spoken there since the end of the 15th century - prior to that there was a linguistic divide.--Michael Goodyear (talk) 16:44, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
