Proposal to Edit the Human Trafficking the People's Republic of China Article[edit]

I am a student from Rice University in Houston, TX, and I am looking forward to extensively editing this page as part of a Wikipedia project for my Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities class. The page lacks adequate references and derives most of its information from a single source. The banner of the page lists multiple issues such as compromised neutrality, lack of links to other articles, and reliance upon a single source. I would like to condense the information on the current page and add new sections/topics that help to create a more cohesive and encyclopedic entry on human trafficking in China.

I would like to revise the current page and bring it to a “Good Rating” by adding new information, restructuring the article, and condensing current information. Currently, ““Prosecution, Protection, and Prevention” are the only topics currently listed on the page. There are many topics on human trafficking that are missing and I plan to incorporate these three already present components into various topics that I will create. I plan on modeling my revisions after the Wikipedia article on “Human Trafficking in the United States” since I found that page to be the most helpful and clear in addressing issues on human trafficking.

My first priority will be to create a clear introduction and eliminate unnecessary information or moving statistics into later paragraphs. After creating a succinct introduction, I will introduce four different sections on “Reports on Human Trafficking,” “Prevalence,” “Types of Human Trafficking,” and “Anti-Trafficking Laws and Policies.” These sections will also include sub-sections that further delve into the topic. For example, types of human trafficking will include sub-topics like illegal extraction of organs, forced labor, and sex trafficking.

Finally, the rest of my work will involve sifting through the current information already present on the article and reorganizing it. I will condense the sections and delete any uncited information. I would appreciate any input in deleting information that I believe is not pertinent to the article or does not contribute anything substantial to the page. I want to be able to read any advice regarding removal of biased material. There are also a huge number of citations in the article, and any ideas on how to verify a large amount of sources would be helpful. Opinions from other authors on deleting Wikipedia information would be much appreciated. I believe that this article is missing a lot of key information and would be glad to work on this page. However, any advice on how to approach editing the page would be welcome since this is my first time working with Wikipedia. Please let me know any questions, concerns, or comments before I start on my project.

Overall, this article is very comprehensive in coverage of material. It provides a holistic view of the topic and is very readable, formatted well, and sourced properly. I would suggest summarizing the statistics a little better. I also feel like the addition of more relevant illustrations would benefit your article a lot! This article is well written and very comprehensive. Really good improvement, especially with the prevalence section and cleaning up the citations. A consideration is to clarify some of the citations when there’s only one per paragraph. No reliable source for the 150 million in "Internal trafficking is most pronounced among China's migrant population, which is estimated to exceed 150 million people.[2]"[edit]

In reference 2, I only found "Each year, an estimated 600,000- 800,000 men, women, and children are trafficked across international borders" Even if these are all happened in China, it will take 180 years to reach 150 million. Yxk (talk) 10:16, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The source[1] is quoted as merely stating there are 150 million migrant workers in China at any given time, and they are a highly susceptible target demographic for trafficking within China. No real controversy here.

And the report as quoted discusses "Internal trafficking", in case you missed it, so your stats for people "trafficked across international borders" are irrelevant. Besides, the report isn't claiming all of the 150 million migrants are 100% trafficked workers.

Thus Yxk starting this thread with the irrelevant math is utterly useless.

I still think this quoted sentence is a guess without any evidence. It assumed when there are >150 million migrant population in China then internal trafficking is most pronounced. Can I say there are 1.4 million people migrate within Europe Union member states in 2019 [[2]] then internal trafficking is most pronounced among them? Yxk (talk) 16:27, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Today I read on the Xinhua page that in 2022 they arrested 1,219 individuals for human maritime smuggling. I had not bee aware of that issue. Someone should start a table with this figure as the start, update every year, so one has an overview of the issue, even though they are China's own figures.. 2001:8003:A070:7F00:D996:648D:FE53:8F4D (talk) 06:18, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
