Hunter 310 sail area error[edit]

While the quoted commentary cites "her sail area is small, just 455 sq. feet, less than any cruiser" the H310 manual says the total sail area is actually 545 sq. ft. I propose deleting that sentence from the article. I have posted a comment on https://www.practical-sailor.com/sailboat-reviews/used_sailboats/hunter-310#comment-384398 in inquire the author's information source. Thanks for your note here. The Practical Sailor ref from 2000 notes the sail area as 455 sq ft. The Sailboatdata ref notes it as a similar 463.93 sq ft. The official brochure from the Marlow-Hunter website notes it as 523 sq ft "actual" and then as 455 sq ft (100%). So The Practical Sailor number comes from the manufacturer and is a valid number. I suspect the discrepancy is that Hunter's larger 523 sq ft number is with a bigger jib than the 100% fore triangle quoted, which is an easy way to bump up the sail area on a boat. Most reviewers use the baseline calculated 100% fore triangle figure for comparative purposes, rather that pit boats with unevenly bigger and bigger jibs against each other.
I have added the official brochure link to the article.
Here on Wikipedia we go with what reliable sources state and we have three here that all basically agree. We could add a note about the manufacturer supplying factory sails of greater than 100% area if you like. - Ahunt (talk) 21:16, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah excellent. Thank you for verifying that. Much appreciated!! 184.145.9.228 (talk) 21:20, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
