Why can't I find this in the OED, Chambers or Websters? Myrvin (talk) 15:00, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I cannot see that the Bullinger book has the example of beast. He simply cites Matthew 7: 3-5 (the mote and beam parable), without saying why it is an example of the term. They look like metaphors to me. I am starting to suspect he made the word up. Is it used by anyone else independently? Myrvin (talk) 10:01, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Like Myrvin, I have just now had the same experience (6 years on). This word is not in the 2009 OED. I am detecting around 4,000 Google hits for it today, which implies it is real, and I have been able to read about it in some of those pages, but why is it not in any of the online dictionaries and in particular why is it not anywhere to be seen in the OED?? The omniscient, exhaustive, definer of all English words ever known? This makes me rather suspicious about its origins, and having as "references" two examples from the Bible does not do anything to advance the case for its existence. I have now tracked down a real reference from 1850 and in a few minutes am going to add it to this article. The explanation for its absence from dictionaries remains missing, but least a definition can be found. Bad form, though, for the creator of the article to not include such things in the first place. • Some more examples would be appreciated. The 'beast' one is rather underwhelming.Malick78 (talk) 21:49, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
