Common causes and diagnostic use in polydipsia[edit]

Can be a symptom of:

liver disease

malnutrition

Fanconi syndrome

acute intermittent porphyria

hemochromatosis

SIADH

Medication side effect

- megadoses of vitamin C

Differential diagnosis of polydipsia:

- polydipsia symptomatic of diabetes insipidus: levels often over 5 mg/dL
