Engine or Highway[edit]

Okay, rather than possibly get into a long and pointless edit war, the destination of the redirect should be discussed here.

I hold that I4, which has always directed to Straight-4, and I-4, which has (until recently) directed to Interstate 4, should be consistent in order to avoid confusion. If the two redirects directed to two different pages, then imagine this:

Straight-4 I4 redirects here. For the highway, see Interstate 4.

Interstate 4 I-4 redirects here. For the engine, see Straight-4.

That would cause undue confusion. Keeping the two consistent serves to minimize confusion, perhaps at the expense of common usage (I4 is most common for the Straight-4, I-4 is most common for Interstate 4. But either can be used for either.)

I agree. And I've been trying to get all the related pages done, too. The latest guidelines expect the abbreviations to be listed at I4, I-4 redirect there, and all instances of I4 and I-4 to be expanded at the relevent pages.
