Motivation[edit]

The motivation for this article was a brief reference to the IBM 7700 at the High Energy Physics Lab (HEPL) at Stanford in the Stanford Computer Science Department's history wiki. Tom Szolyga responded that he had programmed the only other IBM 7700 known to exist, at the University of Rochester, and he had saved the IBM Systems Reference Library publication which describes it. I offered to start the article and asked Tom to contribute to it based on his personal knowledge. John Sauter (talk) 13:26, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
