Spelling[edit]

English is not my native language, so can please someone check this article and correct the wrong spelling and/or grammar? DaMatriX 16:22, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tourist & historical information[edit]

A short section with some tourist information would be useful. E.g. cycle routes, such as the Ijselldijk between Deventer and Hattem, historical towns of interest, riverside nature reserves such as the one at Hexsel, etc. Also something of the human history of the river would be useful -- settlements, history of the construction of the dykes and canal network fed by the river, & the Ijsell's role as a trade route of the Hanseatic league (the Zutphen-Deventer-Hattem-Zwolle Ijsell towns), etc. --Theranos 19:21, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling: Ijssel or IJssel?[edit]

The Dutch spelling (IJssel) is probably incorrect in English. Does anyone know of a Wikipedia policy regarding that? Schildewaert (talk) 08:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"IJ" and "ij" is the typical Dutch way to write Y/y in Dutch words. They use Y/y only in foreign words. IMHO, Yssel should be the correct transcription in English.--77.174.216.205 (talk) 08:00, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is wrong but, no, there doesn't seem to be a MOS:DUTCH to remind people that WP:USEENGLISH WP:COMMONNAMEs applies here too. IJssel should be included as its foreign name within Dutch but English orthography just capitalizes first letters of digraphs. Of course, the "IJsselmeer" and several other articles will need to be corrected and moved to match. — LlywelynII 02:27, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Operation (Quick) Anger[edit]

Thanks for the information regarding the origine of the name of the river. As said in the article "The name IJssel (older Isla, Isala, from *Īsalō), is thought to derive from a Proto-Indo-European root *eis- "to move quickly" (cf.
