4.0.1

New software has been released to apparently "fix" the iPhone 4's signal issue. Can we update the article to accommodate this? 80.229.169.189 (talk) 19:03, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

iPhone OS release dates assumes America / Northern Hemisphere

The release date of iPhone OS 4.0 for the iPad in the Version History is listed as Fall 2010, in the Southern Hemisphere we receive the iPhone OS Updates at the same time as the Northern Hemisphere so the season reference has little meaning.

Name mismatch

Someone got the cart in front of the horse here. The parent article (iPhone OS) is currently back at its original name until a proper discussion takes place on the appropriate name. This article needs to do the same to keep in sync with the parent. Only when the parent article is renamed should this one be. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 19:06, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Order of Versions

How about rearranging these so the newest versions goes upper most? 78.169.145.220 (talk) 12:12, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Section edits

Why don't I see any edit options beside any of the sections in this article? They seem to be appearing on any other random article I check, and I can't find any code removing them.--Crossmr (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Found it, it was tucked a couple sections down. There is no reason to do that to articles.--Crossmr (talk) 23:42, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
[1], those "awful" edit boxes are useful for editing the article. That is what we do here. Having to load an entire page to make one small change is ridiculous.--Crossmr (talk) 23:46, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

iOS 4.0 NOT RELEASED YET

Can someone please change 4.0 back to a "Future Release"? Currently, iTunes shows that 3.1.3 is the current version, meaning 4.0 has yet to come out.

Table of Contents

Is there a way to edit the table of contents box at the top to have an ordered list using roman numerals, or letters, or something different than numbers? They end up combining with the versioning system and makes it very difficult to read. Rukaribe (talk) 06:37, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

I agree, but I haven't seen it done on any other pages so I do not know how to change it :/ Dylan (talk) 15:26, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I agree too. There is a way to do it I believe, if someone knows can they please fix it to be easier to read. Jimthing (talk) 08:37, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
After years of reading wikipedia, I finally created an account just now to say how horrible that table of contents is to read. Maybe just adding 'iOS' between the list numerics and the version number? Mattmed (talk) 12:51, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, so I went ahead and put iOS between the list numbers and version number. It definitely makes it easier to read. I also limited the TOC so it didn't list all the versions because the TOC was way too long. Jd2157 (talk) 00:37, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

FaceTime for iPad

This has not been confirmed for iPad in iOS 4.1. It has however been confirmed for iPod Touch using an e-mail address to communicate through FaceTime. It is impossible to confirm this feature until the iPad's version of iOS comes out for developers OR until Apple officially announces such feature will come in 4.1. As of right now 4.1 isn't even for the iPad Device. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IchigoKurosaki (talkcontribs) 19:15, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Good point, I'll delete it. Ianprime0509 Talk 19:27, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
The iPod touch hardware doesn't have a camera yet, so while there may be some evidence of support for the feature in the code for iOS 4.1, any actual suggestion of FaceTime on iPod touch is simply rumor and speculation at this time. And thus, per WP:SPECULATION, I'm deleting mention of the misleading feature listing. WildCowboy (talk) 13:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
For the record, the 4th generation iPod touch, which came with iOS 4.1 in September 2010, featured FaceTime using an e-mail address. In March 2011, the iPad 2 came out with FaceTime in iOS 4.3.
The iPod touch 4th generation was the first iPod touch model to include cameras, and the iPad 2 was the first iPad to include cameras (later followed by the 3rd generation iPad).

Feature breakdown per device needed

When a new iOS is released not all features of the new iOS will be available on the older devices. Some features will be available. Needed: A breakdown of features into table rows with a column for each device (iTouch, 3G, 3GS, 4, iPad) so that features can be marked available or unavailable for a particular device running a particular iOS. Column marks will be (p) present (n) not present (u) unknown or something like that. I may jump in and do it. Any thoughts on this proposed breakdown?

I agree, it would make it easier to see. In fact, I wish there were multiple-table views, so users could see the info displayed in a number of differing ways as they needed. Is that something that could be done somehow, much as databases give results as the user requires? Jimthing (talk) 08:44, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Why aren't table cells top-aligned?

Some of the cells' contents are incredibly long, and center-aligning the contents of all cells means you have to scroll down a ways to see what iOS version and other details are involved. Why not top-align the cells? Corixidae | Talk - Contributions 17:35, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Ping

Ping is listed as becoming available in ios 4.1, but it is already available in 4.0.2. Is this right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.40.197 (talk) 12:41, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Nope. Ping is new in iOS 4.1. The encyclopedia is correct. ~NerdyScienceDude 13:18, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Ping on 4.0.2 reprise

I guess this is moot now that 4.1 has been released, but contrary to Apple's software update page Ping did exist in 4.0.2: screenshot here. It did not appear however until my first sync with iTunes 10, which roughly coincided with the release of iOS 4.1. Rup (talk) 11:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Ping in iTunes on the iPhone is even available on iOS 4.0.1, since it is simply showing you web content. It would probably be good to note that although Apple advertises that it is "new" with iOS 4.1, it is still available on iOS 4.0.x. Wikipedia XP (talk) 03:01, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Clarity of 4.1 bug fix: "iPhone 3G speed problems"

This item, I think, is ambiguous and can be easily interpreted by readers as either: A) Fixing the 3G model's performance under iOS 4 or B) Improving 3G network performance for all applicable iPhones

I replaced it with "iPhone 3G's performance problems under iOS 4.0" as it is closer in meaning to its citation.

Where is 3.1.1?

The table skips from Firmware 3.1 to 3.1.2, thus skipping 3.1.1. I just read it closer, forget this question. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.195.77.49 (talk) 03:58, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

4.2.1

I don't want an edit war so I try to get consensus via the talk page. It now appears that version 4.2 will never be released and Apple will release version 4.2.1 instead. I modified the 4.2 header in the version history to 4.2.1 but this was reverted in the favor of a new 4.2.1 header. I don't think this is the way to go, 4.2 will never be released and the changes that 4.2 would have brought will be exposed to the public in the 4.2.1 release and this is what the table should reflect. There could be a line at the top that could say something like: "Originally intended as the 4.2 release but to last minute bugs released as 4.2.1" or something like that. To sum up the table should only include official released versions with their changes so the 4.2 header should just be changed to 4.2.1 and not two separate version with one as "unreleased".Cyzor (talk) 21:44, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

I absolutely agree. 4.2 was never available to the public, therefore, not a release. DixieLeeRest (talk)
I agree as well. 4.2.1 is what was released, although it is marketed and referred to as 4.2. Wikipedia XP (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:37, 29 November 2010 (UTC).

Tables: equal column widths & addition of bottom headers

Under all the tables for "Version history: iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad", and the single one for "Version history: Apple TV"; can the column widths be made the same size for ALL tables, instead of one table having a wider column for say "Release date" than the one underneath it and they therefore do not align themselves from each table as you scroll down the page.

And can the column headers at the top (Version, Build, Baseband, Release date, Features) be added to the bottom of each table, as these tables have very long columns and you have to scroll all the way to top if you want to see them again. Please see the other table issues on this talk page as well. Jimthing (talk) 09:01, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Both fixed. (Note: device refs, eg. P1, P2, P3, etc, can screw this up if not dropped to next line; see 3.1.2) Jimthing (talk) 10:15, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

4.2.1 removed "Internet tethering" settings

Hello,

After I updated my iPhone 3GS to IOS 4.2.1, it no longer displayed the Settings > Network > "Tethering" options. Tethering was a main feature that I welcomed as part of the IOS 4.x new release. It was displayed on the earlier 4.x releases. If someone could confirm and update the article, that would be great.

All the best, Ed —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ferrero1 (talkcontribs) 01:33, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Revised Springboard Scrolling?

Can whoever added this (or anyone) elaborate on exactly how the springboard scrolling changed? gujamin (talk) 18:36, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I smell an ad.

"Now you can play your entire iTunes library from anywhere in the house. If it’s on your Mac or PC, you can play it on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over a shared Wi-Fi network. And not just music. Watch a movie or TV show. Play a podcast. Or listen to an audiobook. On whichever device you want — without having to download or sync." Sure sounds like an ad to me. Should say, "Ability to stream iTunes library to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" or something like that. This is under 4.3, just so you know. --Wernjump (talk) 03:11, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

4.3

I have recently upgraded to 4.3 and found a new feature that I can't see mentioned - the mail app has a Mark As Unread button. I downloaded this feature from Cydia with 4.2.1, but, as far as I know, the upgrade has deleted all the jailbreak apps. Can someone confirm that this feature is made by Apple.

XsandaOS (talk), who uses an iPod Touch 4G iOS 4.3 (ex-jailbroken) —Preceding undated comment added 10:47, 17 March 2011 (UTC).

Yes that feature is from the original non-jailbroken iOS and it has been there even before 4.3 (Well as far as I know my Yahoo! address has had that). You have to press 'Details' then 'Mark as Unread' appears next to the date.Esebi95 (talk) 21:39, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Collapse Tables

I think some Collapsing needs to be used on each 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 headings ect. Because the article takes a very long time to scroll through. And the first 1.0 update is pretty irrelevant for people now since it was 5 years ago back in 2007 since the first release. Alexcanton (talk) 12:31, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

First of all, it should be written because that's an iOS. secondly, it was released in 2007, 4 years ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.178.207.129 (talkcontribs) 14:10, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

iPod touch 4G

in the section of iOS 4.0 description it says that iPod touch 4G is supported, although it is released only when iOS 4.1 comes out. 79.178.207.129 (talk) 19:08, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Apple TV2 software version and iOS version confusion

The versioning of the Apple TV software is so similar to iOS versioning it's constantly causing confusion. People regularly update the page here with the wrong Apple TV Software numbers despite the reference: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4448. From that page it's fairly clear that Apple TV Software 4.1 was the initial release and 4.2.2 is the latest. It's also clear from the atv2 menu under Settings > General > About. By default it displays the Apple TV Software version and pressing the select button shows the iOS build version. Jd2157 (talk) 14:05, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
