What happened to the RX1990(5)?[edit]

I had one of these before a HX24xx but they don't seem to have ever existed

Pictures?[edit]

  • Would this page benefit from pictures of the various models? I have a 4300 series that I can submit a picture of - does wikipedia need pictures of PDA's from each model? --Oreckel 23:08, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Windows perceived as liability not advantage, re Palm Pilot[edit]

The following sentence is debatable:

The device is the main competition to the Palm Pilot, but provides more multimedia capabilities and the familiar Microsoft Windows interface.

No evidence is cited re purported multimedia advantage, and no mention that interface is not really that familiar re Windows, and many see it as a liability, esp wrt iPaq reputation for crashing, memory hogging, and being slow.

  • Ok - then rewrite it. Example:
The device is the main competition to the Palm Pilot, but provides more multimedia capabilities and the familiar Microsoft Windows interface. However, iPaqs also hold a reputation for memory hogging and crashing. --Oreckel 04:11, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
but if you wish to note supposed "crashing, memory hogging, and being slow", then you will likewise need some evidence. Got data?Ken (talk) 20:02, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update needed[edit]

The article currently says This iPAQ is due for launch in the second-half of April 2005. Can someone with the rrequired knowledge update it, please? Andy Mabbett 13:31, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Click here and do it yourself. You can. :) ¦ Reisio 19:27, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
are there any reports of Linux running on the h6500 series? 81.63.63.37 09:05, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SuperWaba in the See also section?[edit]

Should this really be there? It's not significantly tied enough to the iPAQ product line in my opinion. Brianreading 07:32, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marketing tone[edit]

Is it just me who gets the feeling that this article has a marketing tone plastered all over it?... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.234.56.53 (talkcontribs) 13:30, 6 June 2007.

I don't see how this article reads like marketing. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 17:05, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History, predecessors[edit]

Can anyone who knows a bit more write a sentence or two about Compaq Aero handhelds which were basically the same thing, only labelled differently. I used to own a Compaq Aero 1550 one day and i wanted to find out which year this might have been (to calculate in how many years has this Win CE not gotten any better...)

New "Russian programmer" stuff[edit]

Can anyone confirm this "Russian programmer"? Any idea who? I'm at a loss for finding information about these "upgrades" an anon inserted info about today. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 03:08, 18 September 2007 (UTC) Think that was Israeli programmers hacking. Bezeqint had injected code into IpaQ through their SIM card disabling GPRS switchoff. It could only be overridden by tapping on the frozen GPRS button while hard-resetting using paperclip or toothpick; reboot would work with GPRS off. Otherwise it was impossible to switch off-on GPRS, although wifi and bluetooth were not targeted by the malicious code on the T-Mobile 2005 IpaQ.[reply]

It seems both the "Teknion" university in Haifa, and the Weizmann Institute of science had produced scholarly work on such, in Hebrew, Arabic (right-to-left) and cyrillic (left-to-right) text code.126.209.47.215 (talk) 19:25, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

USB Host / USB on the Go[edit]

There seems to be conflicting reports on whether the iPAQ 210 series supports USB on the Go, or can operate as a USB host. A customer service rep apparently said the 210 could act as a USB host and connect to external hard drives, USB drives, etc. But it's likely that the service rep had no idea what she was talking about, being a service rep and all... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.51.247.188 (talk) 02:23, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

210 has CF slot[edit]

The iPAQ 210 has a Compact Flash slot as well as the SDIO slot.

VM & DM[edit]

It seems the iPaq Voice Messenger and Data Messenger are not yet included? The Seventh Taylor (talk) 10:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strange HP iPaq 614c[edit]

I was trying to connect my iPaq to Linux, and did a simple: lsusb Linux identifies device as "Hewlett-Packard Jornada 548 / iPaq HW6515 Pocket PC"

I guess my device has triple identities. 83.233.243.4 (talk) 13:04, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

iPAQ 100 Series correction[edit]

The iPAQ series 100 section in this article states that it has 256 MB ROM. Since ROM stands for Read Only Memory, shouldn't it be changed to 256 MB NVRAM or something of the sort? It seems pointless to put in 256 MB of memory that you cant write to, especially since the OS is probably less than 50 MB.

Inappropriate style[edit]

The whole section on the rw6800 reads like text that's been lifted from a company brochure. An encyclopedia is not the place for sentences with "we" and "you". This undermines the text because it implies that this section cannot be WP:NPOV. --Pfold (talk) 23:17, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removed "Model variation" section[edit]

This section is incredibly unencyclopedic. According to Wikipedia policy, Wikipedia is not a how-to guide or instruction manual, and Wikipedia should not serve as a catalogue for a company's products. Any encyclopedic content should be salvaged from this section; however, simply listing each model's specification is a waste of space (a reader can just look up the model they're interested in on the official iPAQ website or elsewhere, I'm sure) and much of the section was written in the style of an advertisement. Any models described should have their notability asserted with reliable sources which are not affiliated with the iPAQ manufacturers. The iPod article is by no means great but gives an idea of how useful information about a piece of branded hardware can be presented. Hopefully this helps, Una LagunaTalk 13:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bluetooth and Infrared[edit]

The Ipaq 1940 doesn't have bluetooth. At least, mine doesn't as far as I can tell. I suspect the confusion might be that the 1945 does have bluetooth. It does however, have infrared. It would probably be good in the tables to add a column for Infrared. http://pocketpccentral.net/ipaq1945.htm

I'd like to leave the editing to someone else, partly because I'm still learning my way around Wiki and don't want to mess up the page completely; also because I'm not that familiar with the Ipaqs and could be wrong in my beliefs. Mathsgirl (talk) 09:26, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The common feature was the radio connectivity window on Windows CE, displaying the hardware connectivity options with touchscreen-button switchability. Some models had more options, including GPRS (you need a simcard) but you can switch them all on/off independantly. Well, you could unless you had inserted the hack-enabling Israeli simcards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.209.7.228 (talk) 20:29, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

pictures of the hardware/ 2005 model T-Mobile GPRS[edit]

Hi, anyone manage to get a snapshot of the 2005 T-Mobile GPRS model with the screen (pointing device and display) off? It was running Microsoft CE, when taken in the City of London June 6th 2008. The other one, with a 2gig SD card in it (with screen intact) was taken into evidence (BNN01) on June 17th 2008 at Kennington. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.161.136.255 (talk) 21:19, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If by hardware you mean the components, mostly assembled by HTC before they started their own "smart" phone, and yes, some internal pics would be an improvement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.209.58.177 (talk) 15:01, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
