Request for Speedy Deletion[edit]

Hi. I don't think this page has sufficient context that it can be salvaged. It seems to be comparing something to PPP over Ethernet. Perhaps it's talking about sending IP packets over ethernet the way you would on a LAN or in a corporation to PPP over Ethernet as a service model. If so, enough context needs to be added that a reader can understand what is going on. Even as someone quite familiar with IP and ethernet, I cannot follow. Similarly, I don't understand how things like video on demand or IPTV interact with this at all; no context is provided. I acknowledge that this may not be sufficiently clear for speedy deletion; if so, then something else needs to be done to the article. --SamHartman 19:46, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing the Redirect[edit]

I can see the rationale, but not the need for, the redirect/merge. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to merge any mention, reference or explanation of IPoE into the OSI page. So I recreated this IPoE page, with one reference. I would expect reasonable editors with more knowlege than I to expand this page rather than stupidly undo my work. 124.148.65.123 (talk) 06:20, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've added more information, mainly to clarify that this does NOT refer to the general concept of transporting IP over Ethernet, which long antedates home broadband Internet access, but specifically refers to using that general mechanism, plus DHCP, to provide IP to subscribers in an access network, rather than inserting PPPoE in between IP and Ethernet in the protocol stack.
