Additional phase?[edit]

The phase diagram from the ice article (see right) shows an additional phase of ice XI with a hexagonal structure occurring at pressures above 200 GPa. Is this correct? It's not currently mentioned in the article. Warofdreams talk 14:12, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That high-pressure phase has not been verified experimentally (yet) and though it's named occasionally Ice XI (or Ice XIII) it shouldn't be so. Calculations indicate the structure should be ortorhombic (Pbcm or Pmc21). When it's verified, it'll probably get the name Ice XVI. Szczureq (talk) 19:06, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

First sentence[edit]

The first sentence states that ice Ih is the "most common" form of ice. Is this strictly true? On a universal scale, I would guess that Ice XI is the most common (though I am not knowledgeable enough to say for sure). Assuming this is true, perhaps the word "terrestrial" should be added to the first sentence, or maybe "most common" should be replaced by "ordinary". that's a rather technical objection, but I changed the wording. You are very astute to point that out, we don't actually know how common ice XI is in outer space, and it may be by far the most common, as discussed in the article. Danski14(talk) 18:16, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
