Psych 2410A at King’s 2012[edit]

I have decided to edit this article for Psych 2410A at King’s 2012. Neetanezz (talk) 18:09, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking forward to it. Good luck! Lova Falk talk 18:31, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to you too! However, wouldn't it be better to chose an article that no one has chosen yet? Lova Falk talk 11:34, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Changes[edit]

I intend on making the following changes to this article:

  1. Introducing information on the article "The role of siblings in identity development in adolescence and emerging adulthood" from the Journal of Adolescence.
Wong, T. L., Branje, S. T., VanderValk, I. E., Hawk, S. T., & Meeus, W. J. (2010). The role of siblings in identity development in adolescence and emerging adulthood. Journal Of Adolescence, 33(5), 673-682 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neetanezz (talkcontribs) 12:51, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Split the section on self-concept and clearing up the part on self concept because it is really talking more about various types of identities and loses its purpose part way through the section.
  2. Removing the section on Identity formation in Management and putting the information from it into a different section (maybe interpersonal development) because it seems incomplete and almost irrelevant to the rest of the article.
Neetanezz (talk) 15:05, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Changes I am going to Make[edit]

  1. I would first like to remove the "Identity Formation in Management" section because that small paragraph takes away from the overall purpose of the article, and is not an essential category to understanding identity formation. I think it should be taken out all together and formed into "Interpersonal Identity Development" because both of these sections can tie into social relations, which also occur in the workplace and management.
  2. I would also like to propose removing the "Affiliation" section because it mentions family as a major influence but the section previous to that called "Self, other, and interaction" also talks about families influence in the formation of identity. These sub categories were unnecessarily split into two, when they could be reduced to one.
  3. I would also like to insert a subcategory called "Roles of peers in Identity Formation", which would mention the initial and critical influence of peer conversations in identity forming, so readers can follow an understanding of how peer group conversations are very important in defining ones' self. I will achieve this by explaining the article,
Morgan, Elizabeth M. & Korobov, Neil. (2011) Interpersonal Identity Formation in Conversations
with Close Friends About Dating Relationships. Journal of Adolescence

Changes I Intend to Make...[edit]

  1. Removing the "Theory of Developmental Stages" section, because the content is very brief and some of it is not very relevant to identity formation. Since it is not informative enough I would like to remove it all together and replace it with a similar section that is more concise and relevant. This section will be titled, "The Two Main Theories on Identity Formation". This section will focus on Erik Erikson's psychosocial stage on adolescence (Identity vs. Role Confusion) and James Marcia's four identity statuses (diffusion, foreclosure, moratorium, achievement).
  2. Add a whole new section on "Influences on Identity". This section will contain information on the main contributors to identity formation (parents, peers, cognitive, culture, academics, etc).
  3. Introducing and explaining the article,
Sartor, Carolyn E. & Youniss, James. (2002). The relationship between positive parental involvement and identity achievement
during adolescence. Adolescence, 37, 221-234.

Please add a source![edit]

Hi there! There is just no point in adding text without a reference. Sooner or later unreferenced text will be replaced by referenced text. All your good work all for nothing. Please, please, add references! Lova Falk talk 10:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of the template message at the top of the further readings section[edit]

There is no point in having this banner as not all references can go into the article, and if anyone wants to read more, this is a great list to do so. TomRichomme (talk) 12:34, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
