Three places called Taufkirchen[edit]

The article currently says about this Ignaz Bendl:

There is almost nothing known about his life. According to Grove's Dictionary of Art, he was born, perhaps as the son of Johann-Georg Bendl, in Pfarrkirchen. There are two towns called Pfarrkirchen in Upper Austria, therefore it is undecided which one it might have been. There is no date of birth. He died circa 1730, but again no mention where.

Pfarrkirchen bei Bad Hall and Pfarrkirchen im Mühlkreis in Upper Austria are rather unlikely. The Bendl family was big in Pfarrkirchen in Lower Bavaria since Jakob Christoph Bendl moved there. Jakob Christoph was born before 1600, was active in Waldsee in Upper Swabia for some 20 years, from where he moved to Prague in 1636, for a short time, and then on to Baumgarten and Pfarrkirchen, where he deceased before 1662.

If Ignaz Bendl was the son of Johann Georg Bendl, active in Bohemia from ca. 1650 (at the latest) until his death in 1680, like his father Georg Bendl, it seems more likely to me that Ignaz was born in Bohemia also.

In total, there are at least eight artists from the Bendl family between ca. 1570 and 1738. -- Martinus KE (talk) 20:20, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
