Untitled[edit]

The first sentencer contains "...was the first woman pitcher to start a professional baseball game..." As the All-American Girl's Professional Baseball League was professional, this sentence is inaccurate, so I am adding the word "men's" as a qualifier.

I think this article has its problems, such as not being very well sourced or being written in an objective style, but the notability tag is inappropriate. The notable facts are not in dispute: she was the first female baseball player in the modern era to play in a men's professional league, which she did for several years and has received much recognition for. She is cited and/or discussed on literally thousands of different web sites and in hundreds of news sources. She has recently been in the news frequently as a result of the Japanese female knuckle-ball pitcher (which is how I came across this page myself). While "noteworthiness is not temporary," there is no reason to believe her newsworthiness will change, as she will likely be mentioned and discussed in major stories about female professional athletes in perpetuity. Reasons for retirement[edit]

Currently the article asserts without citation that Borders retired due to a disappointment with poor performance. However this article, which contains a short interview with Borders: The Hidden Queer History Behind “A League of Their Own”, quotes Borders as saying:

"[Being closeted is] why I quit. It’s the worst thing on Earth to hide who you are."

It is possible that Borders could quit the league for a variety or combination of reasons, including both a poor performance and the pressure of being closeted. However there is no source given for the existing rationale whereas this quote which I have no reason to doubt is from Borders, seems rather explicit. I've flagged the existing claim as WP:CITENEED, and if none materializes I suggest replacing the claim with a sourced claim. AquitaneHungerForce (talk) 14:31, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
