The Subjected movie's music was scored by Shankar Ganesh (I believe)

Merge discussion

While I don't doubt the notability of Ilaiyaraaja as a composer, it is simply not necessary for him to have a separate list article for every year of films that he has composed music for, especially when all of those list articles are little more than stubs! I propose that all of those lists be merged into a sortable table in this article instead. Fortdj33 (talk) 13:22, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

• Please note that Illayaraja is the only composer in this world to have more than 1000 film releases and the year wise details are not update and I am doing that one by one and yes, of course only 679 pages have been created for these 1000 films and I am creating those film pages as well. Please note that it will be an impossible task for a reader to check all the 1000 films listed in a single page as you have suggested. Please give me some more time as I will update all film details of Illayaraja.

I agree with Rajesh. A single page for 1000+ films makes no sense in my opinion. As for the list articles being stubs, I have added to Rajesh's count to update every year accurately and I have counted the films till now and wiki now has 970+ films in all the years together in separate pages for each with some 20 more to release this year and next. Some years like 1984 have about 54 films in just that one year! That page on 1984 itself is super long. Just clicking on each page from 1980 till 1995 would visually give the best picture in my opinion on the monstrosity of Ilayaraja's prolific output. There is none like him with respect to output in film music. In addition, we're planning to add the most noteworthy/worthy film's picture with a description for each year so that each page gets more gloss. Such an effort is time consuming but it is the least wikipedia can do to do justice for Ilaiyaraaja's genius.

• Merge only the most important stuff and delete the pages for the rest. If a person has hundreds of film credits it's rare for Wikipedia to list them all, regardless of what their role was in the film. Offhand a look at many of the films listed on his discography shows that many of them appear to fail NFILM and likely don't merit a page on Wikipedia. I'd say that all that Wikipedia really needs is to have a page that collects the highlights from each year and that's about it. The site isn't meant to be absolutely comprehensive or a database for everything someone has done. At the very least we should have pages by decades, but I don't know that we even particularly need that. We're not Discogs. Tokyogirl79 (｡◕‿◕｡) 07:03, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
• Merge films into filmography by decade or here. Filmography by year for a single person is too much, even if it's a special case where a person has 1000 credits. I don't have a problem with Tokyogirl79'a solution, but I think it would be a decent compromise to merge them into filmography by decade. If we merged them here, that'd work, too, but we'd probably have to get rid of the non-notable entries, as Tokyogirl79 says. It's fine to just collect the highlights if that's the consensus.
