Is it a reservation?[edit]

Maybe a nit, but kind of a significant legal one. Is the land the casino is on actually a reservation, or is it off-reservation Indian trust land? The Quinault casino in Oyehut, Washington near Ocean Shores is the latter, for instance. - Bri (talk) 18:19, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Bri: The sources I've seen refer to it as the Cowlitz's initial reservation, since the tribe had no reservation before. Sounder Bruce 18:32, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Moving page to "ilani" or "Ilani"[edit]

A while ago I attempted to move this page. I was not aware that this is a controversial topic, so I didn't create a discussion. In light of this, I'm opening a discussion for moving this page.

The edit note stated: "The website itself and secondary sources (Columbian, TDN) use the full name. Please discuss before moving next time."

The website does indeed have the URL as "ilaniresort.com" because "ilani.com" was taken; however, the website itself *never* refers (and never has referred) to the property as "Ilani Casino Resort" or "Ilani Resort". It only ever refers to it as "ilani", similar to "adidas" (not "adidas Clothing Co."). The lack of capitalization is also a purposeful stylization (again similar to adidas) with respect to the Cowlitz language—being that it means "to sing". However, I understand for Wikipedia's purposes that it most likely must be capitalized, especially at the beginning of a sentence, which is why I made it "ilani" or "Ilani" in the headline of this discussion.

Yes, there were some articles (secondary sources), especially early on before the opening in 2017, that did refer to ilani as "Ilani Casino" or "Ilani Casino Resort", but that was made in error. You'll notice in all *current* articles, this has been corrected:

You'll notice the secondary sources that was mentioned (Columbian, TDN) no longer refer to ilani as "Ilani Casino" or "Ilani Casino Resort".

MGM Grand, Treasure Island, The Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Mohegan Sun, etc. do not have "Casino" in the title of the company and the Wikipedia pages correctly reflect this. However, secondary sources may sometimes add the word "Casino" after the title; I would assume Wikipedia would stay true to the actual name and not to incorrect sources.

(Maybe this should be its own discussion) Lastly, I did have a final question on the reversion of the city, in relation to ilani: reverting back from Ridgefield to La Center. From ilani's website, it states; "Located on a 156-acre site in Ridgefield, Washington". I understand that it may seem closer to La Center, but since the address (which is present on the Wikipedia page) says Ridgefield, does it seem superfluous to say "near La Center, Washington" vs. "in Ridgefield, Washington"? Perhaps this is a Wikipedia rule I wasn't aware of? I find it odd because that doesn't seem to be the norm that in other articles—it's always exactly where it's located.

Due to technical restrictions, article titles cannot begin with a lowercase letter. Article titles are required to use commonly recognizable names instead of official names mandated by brands, and it is also important to use names that can be easily identifiable. Having the "casino" label is helpful for disambiguation and should remain. As for the location: although the postal address uses Ridgefield, the casino and reservation are not within the city limits or urban growth area and are in fact bordering La Center, which is also the closest city.
