Sobol or Sobol'[edit]

Existing literature appears to indicate his name actually ends in an apostrophe. I'm not clear what the distinction is in Russian, however. I'm hesitant to make the change (which would include updating the name of this page and adding a redirect at its current location) without understanding the nuance here...Tfocker4 (talk) 20:00, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Some info about the Cyrillic 'soft sign', which is often Romanized as a prime or apostrophe: Soft sign Davidg707 (talk) 23:06, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is no questions here. If one needs convincing, look for PDF versions of "On sensitivity estimation for nonlinear mathematical models". You will find an author version with hand writing of Sobol' himself on the first page where he writes his name, with the soft sign. 62.240.134.193 (talk) 21:19, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Materialscientist read this! 62.240.134.193 (talk) 21:49, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the page to "Ilya M. Sobol'". I used an ASCII quote character, but I'm not sure if it should use a Unicode character instead. asmeurer (talk | contribs) 22:48, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are right it is indeed with an apostrophe though in many articles he is referred to as Sobol without apostrophe. I think you can proceed to the change & redirect, if you like. user:saltean —Preceding undated comment added 14:19, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
