Immanuel Wallerstein will be featured, along with speakers Marnia Lazreg and Joseph Massad, in "Islam and the Modern Orientalist World-System," the 30th Conference of the Political Economy of the World-System (PEWS) Section of the American Sociological Association (ASA) at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. April 27 - 29, 2006. [1]

Works[edit]

Is there a reason that all of the "works" listed are books? I think it would be appropriate to include his more influential articles as well. The one that comes to mind as being his most influential article (certainly more influential than many of the books listed) is "The Rise and Future Demise of the World Capitalist System: Concepts for Comparative Analysis," Comparative Studies in Society and History, Vol. 16, No. 4. "intrinsic value"?[edit]

The following claim is problematic and needs to be elaborated on:

Natural resources, land, labor and human relationships are gradually being stripped of their "intrinsic" value

According to Marx, it is is clear that ‘value’ is not a natural property of things (Capital V1, 126 fn.7) but on the other, for people living in a commodity producing society, it appears as if things possess an "intrinsic value" (Ibid., 126, 989).

The Modern World-System vol. 5 and 6[edit]

Reporting as dead[edit]

Immanuel Wallerstein is currently noted as dead 2019-09-31 and while that may be true, it also seems to be based on fairly weak reports. wp:BLP is meant for us to err on the safe side.

The initial reference link was [3] and if that is enough to spawn inclusion in Wikipedia, others "news makers" may then use that as a source for "better articles". So rather than replacing that source with a seemingly better one, we should revert and await a really trustworthy source. -- JAGulin (talk) 14:47, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

With time, the matter has been more widely reported. This request is closed. It's still vital to look out for unsourced information, however. This is realisticly true, but unlikely to come from the source. JAGulin (talk) 15:18, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Academic vs Professional Career[edit]

It's important to note that for a bit of his career, he taught at some institutions, I have added a section where we can see some of the institutions where he was a professor. I hope more people can add to this section as the structure is still a work in progress and it would be nice for experienced editors to fix the structure and distinguish where he taught and where he studied in.
