Nice article. My main concern is with the Opening section, which I think needs to be restructured. --Malleus Fatuorum 01:10, 30 October 2009 (UT

Lead
  • "Today the museum stands opposite the Lowry cultural centre ...". Seems strange to prefix this sentence with "today". Where did it stand yesterday?
  • I think the lead needs to be expanded a little to include a summary of the information in the present Opening section.
Opening
  • "The museum's opening was a considerable success ...". It wasn't the "opening" that was the success, and the source doesn't really say that anyway. Probably better to stick to something less pov, like "the museum met its annual visitors target in its first six months", or something similar.
  • I'm unconvinced by the name of this section, as it seems to be about the success of the museum in terms of visitor numbers, awards, and critical reception.
  • "That year the Imperial War Museum's project director, Vivienne Bennett, was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for services to museums." This just seems to be lobbed in like a hand grenade in the middle of positive visitors numbers and critical reception of the building.
Fair points. The lead is fairly easily amended, so will do that first. Regarding the opening section, how about renaming it 'Reception' or 'Critical and popular reception'? Wasn't my intention to be POV on the museum's success, so will rephrase accordingly. About the reference to Bennett, I thought that detail reflected the museum's wider recognition, but it can be dispensed with if you think it really inappropriate. --IxK85 (talk) 09:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think a rename to Reception would work, and I'd probably then move it to after the Exhibitions section. I don't necessarily want to get rid of the mention of Bennett's MBE, I'd just like to see it integrated into the flow somehow, and its relevance to the museum made clearer. MBE's aren't usually awarded just for running a new museum for a few months. --Malleus Fatuorum 15:38, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd originally structured the article that way so as to move chronologically from Architecture and construction -> Opening, but it can be moved without any great loss. About Bennett, I believe the MBE was for her role in overseeing the IWM North project over a number of years (rather than as museum director); she's mentioned as project director in this (one of the article's references) from October 2000. Lacking a decent source for that, however, it's probably easier omitted for the time being. --IxK85 (talk) 16:28, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved the opening sentence of what is now the Reception section to the end of Construction, where I think it better fits now. --Malleus Fatuorum 17:29, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've been really impressed with the improvement in this article over the last few weeks, and I've got no hesitation in listing it as a GA now. Nice job. --Malleus Fatuorum 17:31, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
