History section[edit]

An experienced editor removed the history section of this article in its entirety. In general, this was for good reason, because most of the section seemed to be sourced to random, non-notable mentions of Inch in random historical documents.

However, almost all articles about populated settlements have a 'History' section. Of the section that was deleted I would suggest some of the information about the C14th Kennedies is of interest - after all, it is sourced. Also the WW2 annecdotes may be significant, though they need to cite a source.

I've removed the link to the history of Wigtown, because there does not seem to be any relevant content on that article. Sionk (talk) 11:39, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect[edit]

The concept of parish is now explained, after two experienced editors weighed in on my talk page, section "Inch". In short, it is a no-longer current administrative unit, not an exclusively religious unit, and as such the appropriate place for this content is a more general, topographical/geographical article. Wigtownshire, as an administrative unit, is probably the most appropriate target, but since we now have (rightly or wrongly) Inch, Wigtownshire, I have moved it there. Perhaps everything ought to be moved at some point, but for now this will have to do. Let it be clear, though, that there is no reason whatsoever to have an article on a parish.
