What's the time period for including Independents?[edit]

Back in the 19th century, basically every politician was an independent. Do we just start from the 1890s (and the rise of political parties) or earlier? --Roisterer (talk) 04:12, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We were discussing something similar regarding categorisation at WT:AUP. Basically whenever there is an identifiable, organisationally sound non-Labor party, I'd say (or, for Tasmania and SA, liberal party). It will differ by state, so we should just note it at the top of the table. Frickeg (talk) 07:02, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, what Frickeg said. In practice (as with the discussion at WT:AUP), anyone after 1910 definitely belongs here, because all states had party systems by that time; prior to that, it will depend on the state and when they developed - as he put really well - an identifiable, organisationally sound non-Labor party. There was always a party system federally so for that, it would go back to 1901. The Drover's Wife (talk) 10:10, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Any reason why SA is the only lower house list not yet tabulated? I do believe the SA lower house list is now complete but it's quite possible that there may be party-turned-ind/ind-turned-party omissions. Should Thomas Thompson be included? Timeshift (talk) 14:50, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No reason - just because I did most of the lists and I hadn't gotten to SA - which is odd because it's my main area of interest! I think because you'd added most of the people in untabulated list form there was less of a hurry to work on them than the other states and territories. And yes, I'd include Thompson - he's overwhelmingly referred to as an independent, even if often as "Independent Protestant Labour". The Drover's Wife (talk) 15:19, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Major revision of page needed - should independent liberal, labor etc members be included[edit]

This page is missing serval independents and is out of date in several areas. A Major revision is needed, I will update the page but any help would be appreciated. Also should parliamentary members like Moria Deeming and David O'Bryan who sit as independents in parliament but are still members of a party or those elected as independents who are a part of a unregistered party be included.

I agree. In particular, it seems strange that Dai Le is not listed as an independent here. The Dai Le & Frank Carbone Network page emphasises that she still sits as an independent, which is also how the APH website classifies her. AntediluvianBlue (talk) 03:44, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
