History[edit]

Industrial information economy still exists today despite of the emergence of networked information economy. After the Industrial Revolution, an information economy was formed; however, the digital world created another information economy through the advancing of information and communication technologies (ICTs). In order to distinguish between the two, Benkler gave the former the name, industrial information economy and the latter, networked information economy Socarrie (talk) 18:34, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The inclusion of the historical origins of industrial information economy is important because the term was originally known as information economy. After the emergence of another information economy, known as the networked information economy, it was then necessary to differentiate between the two. Most importantly, the essence of an industrial information economy depends on its evolution from the Industrial Revolution and the notion of information as a means to control the minds of many.^[1] Socarrie (talk) 17:35, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
