IWGP, IGF and NWA[edit]

nwawrestling.com the offical site of the NWA clearly states IWGP Heavyweight Champion to be Yuji Nagata and has no mention what so ever of kurt angle or this new inoki federation, there for the NWA is not recognizing that belt at all. changing article to match. since this is a new title all together and not a NWA title affiliate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.161.210.149 (talkcontribs)

We know that Nagata is the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Inoki though is a member of the NWA, thus his leave from New Japan and his start of IGF makes IGF officially the new NWA Japan, and it says that IGF is sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance right on the front page of their site. The IGF/IWGP Third Belt title holder is Kurt Angle, making him NWA Japan Champion. New Japan is no longer apart of the NWA. TonyFreakinAlmeida 15:17, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

nwawrestling.com click on roll call of champions, new japan iwgp is clearly listed as a nwa territory and it states Nagata as champion, as for the IGF there is no mention of the belt or the territory in that list as of yet, unless there just super slow in changing there website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.161.210.149 (talkcontribs)

IGF may be sanctioned by the NWA, but I don't see any evidence that it replaced IWGP. The Roll call of champions page (which was just updated on July 8th when the new NWA World Tag Team Champions were crowned) still lists IWGP. Lrrr IV 01:05, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Simple answer for ya, they haven't updated it yet. TonyFreakinAlmeida 14:43, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Will the IWGP Third Title Have World Title Status?[edit]

I mean it is a main belt for a company, and Angle is about to defend it outside of its country. Doesnt that make it a WORLD title?

Of course it can and with Angle defending it in TNA in the US next month, it will be a somewhat, world title. World status from PWI, though? No it won't, I base that off the fact they've never recognized one from outside the US and the fact that they only recognize 3 at a time, traditionally. You also have to look at it like this, with IGF now being the NWA Japan promotional territory, that means that in NWA terms, it can't be a world title because every territory is meant to serve as a lower tier to the NWA Board's World Heavyweight Championship and Tag Team Championships and can only have regional status. But in real world terms, yes it will be a world title, but I don't think it matters. TonyFreakinAlmeida 17:04, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That sucks then i would have loved to give Angle another Reign but we will see maybe but ya i doubt PWI will give it to it.--Tboneangle123 15:11, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I personally don't follow PWI like gospel. This belt is a World Title, regardless. MC511 06:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What if the promotion called the title as the IGF World Heavyweight Championship? Johnluisocasio (talk) 15:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Angle stripped?[edit]

I've heard rumors that Angle has been stripped of the IWGP title for not defending it in Japan the day before No Surrender. He didn't show up with the title on iMPACT! either. Maybe someone can confirm this. MC511 19:02, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No he wasn't stripped of the title. He defended it on Global iMPACT aginst Yugi Nagata. Also if you notice they dont show Tomko's IWGP Tag Team Championship as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.141.145.206 (talk) 02:53, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of "IWGP Third Belt Championship"[edit]

The article states that the Inoki Genome Federation and TNA Wrestling recognize this title as the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, but gives no indication of where the name IWGP Third Belt Championship originated. Is it just a name frequently used for the title within the wrestling community? Did PWI designate the title with this new name (given, I don't treat PWI as the end-all of wrestling authorities, but apparently some do)? This information would be very helpful to the article. Jeff Silvers 00:49, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From what I read, this is how they referred to the title on the show where Angle faced Lesnar for it. They did this as Inoki didn't want to use the full title of IWGP Heavyweight Title. The belt was the 3rd generation belt that represented the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, so that's where the Third Belt comes from. TonyFreakinAlmeida 18:30, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
IWGP World Heavyweight Championship is the correct name, it's always billed as that by IGF and TNA. Third Belt is some made up fan/wiki/"wrestling-expert" name, noone is the wrestling community calls it that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.8.46.85 (talk) 02:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

unification[edit]

is their going to be a unification for both the Inoki Genome Federation IWGP Championship and the other one? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.22.99 (talk) 19:30, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

International Wrestling Grand Prix Heavyweight Championship (IGF version)?[edit]

Not that it matters anymore, since the IWGP Third Belt Championship was unify with the International Wrestling Grand Prix Heavyweight Championship, but I propose that the IWGP Third Belt Championship be recognized as the International Wrestling Grand Prix Heavyweight Championship (IGF version)? I know IGF and TNA recognize it without the IGF version beside it, and NJPW doesn't recognize it as anything at all, but this will be kind of a compromise. Kurt Angle recognize as International Wrestling Grand Prix Heavyweight Champion, the IGF version of the title only. This will be like how the NWA World Tag Team Championship, and the different versions of it recognize by different regions. What do you guys think? Seasrmar (talk) 19:07, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.8.46.85 (talk) 03:05, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current Champion Keiji Mutoh?[edit]

If the title is retired, how could Mutoh win the title in april, and be the current champ, while not even being in the title history? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.45.186.144 (talk) 03:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sapp Fight[edit]

This part should probably be rewritten so it's in the same tense instead of both past and future tense.

Shinichi Suzukawa was scheduled to face Bob Sapp in a IGF special rules Heavyweight bout on December 31, 2010, at K-1 Dynamite!! 2010.[3] The fight was to be held under MMA rules, but the fighters won't wear gloves. Closed-fist strikes will not be allowed, but palm strikes will be permitted.[4] The event will air on HDNet in North America.[5] The fight was canceled due to a last-minute contract dispute but those in attendance were told that Sapp “had lost his will to fight.” TheGary (talk) 00:37, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ゲノム spells ge - no - mu[edit]

not "Genome"

please see http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%A4%E3%83%8E%E3%82%AD%E3%83%BB%E3%82%B2%E3%83%8E%E3%83%A0%E3%83%BB%E3%83%95%E3%82%A7%E3%83%87%E3%83%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3

Elsewhere on wp a Japanese term is ALWAYS followed by thwe word in Japanese script.

The French wp site also has this oddity.

"Genome" is a term in English, but there is no disambiguation link ?
