Major Overhaul[edit]

This page--like many on wikipedia--is in need of some serious work. While the introduction is good, it could benefit from better descriptions of the instruments, their construction, and history. The instruments could be better categorized as well, probably utilizing the system Harry used in Genesis of a Music would make the most sense; or possibly by traditional methods of musical instrument classification. I also propose that the page be renamed "Instruments of Harry Partch" or "Partch Instruments" rather than "List of..." Composerjude (talk) 16:06, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Composerjude: It's true—the article started as a list on the main Harry Partch article; I moved it here because it was getting unwieldy, and since then it's languished. I lacked access to a lot of the good sources, like Gilmore, and soon turned my attention to other articles. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with it. Please keep in mind that Genesis is a primary source, so its use should be restricted. See: WP:PRIMARY.
As for a rename: "List of ..." articles are common on Wikipedia: take a look at Wikipedia:Featured lists and Wikipedia:Featured list criteria.
As for ordering: the instruments are in alphabetical order. It might be useful to note how Partch organized the instruments, but the list itself should be kept in alphabetical order. Curly Turkey (gobble) 03:04, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since this article is descriptive in nature, and will probably contain little if any interpretations of Partch's work, Genesis should be fine; it is the most authoritative descriptions of the instruments to date. Providing other sources such as Gilmore's biography and the few websites dedicated to Partch would be wise as well.Composerjude (talk) 19:24, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Composerjude, Curly Turkey, I am changing the article to the above suggestion "Instruments of Harry Partch". If anyone objects please revert it and let me know we need more discussion. Jacqke (talk) 16:07, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adapted Guitars[edit]

There is erroneous information here. The problem is Partch's confusing method of naming his Adapted Guitars I & II. It doesn't take into account that Adapted Guitar had a different design that is played like a typical guitar; that is the Adapted Guitar that appeared in 1941 on Barstow. Partch later redesigned the guitar to be a lap guitar. Once I get my sources lined up I'll make a change to that entry. Composerjude (talk) 14:05, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updated lead[edit]

Hello, I just added a para to the lead and made a few edits, hope that's an improvement. Thelisteninghand (talk) 21:13, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
