Neutrality and Style of Article[edit]

As mentioned by other users in edits, the article seems to be styled in a subjective manner, such as an advertisement for the promotion of biodiversity. While the majority of people would probably not have a problem with such a noble cause, Wikipedia standards respect opposing views, even on moral issues. Here are some areas of concern:

1) Need Citations

2) "Through activities and events in many countries, the global community will work together to ensure a sustainable future for us all."

Who is to say the global community will work together? This is certainly not factual and cannot be considered encyclopedic material.

3) "Biodiversity-friendly practices in everyday life" Section

Everyone can help biodiversity and the environment by living in a sustainable manner. How are we affecting our surrounding environment? How do our actions affect more distant ecosystems and other people? To consume less, waste less, reuse and recycle are only the first steps to help biodiversity. Simple everyday activities make a difference.'

Since when did articles ask rhetorical questions and have calls to action?Coreywalters06 (talk) 20:12, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and removed the "Biodiversity-friendly practices in everyday life" section and "What Can I do?" section. The article is supposed to be about the International Year of Biodiversity - not to discuss and promote the agenda of Biodiversity. Coreywalters06 (talk) 22:29, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have made some minor changes and added a criticism section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.41.11.34 (talk) 17:41, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe an article about the biodiversity year should include prominently what is presumably the background and need for such a year. Specifically it should include information about the estimated loss of species being so severe that biologists (almost all? most? references?) belive we are currently in the middle of a global mass extinction event, the sixth, I belive in the Earth's history. In my view the article does not reflects this pretty severe reality neither in tone nor in content. Sorry, I don't have references, nor specialized enough knowledge to formulate this with full accuracy, therefore I am not making contributions to the article. 132.150.226.76 (talk) 15:58, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
