First line[edit]

The first line of the paragraph under "Islam in Iraq" says: "The Muslim population of Iraq is approximately 55 percent Arab Shi'a, 23 percent Arab Sunni and 22 percent Kurdish."

55 + 23 + 22 = 110% SlowSpeed 01:23, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Iraq has almost 50% Sunnis, 32% is grossly under stating Sunni numbers. The few available survey measures of religious identity in Iraq suggest that about half the country is Shia. Surveys by ABC News found between 47% and 51% of the country identifying as Shia between 2007 and 2009, and a Pew Research survey conducted in Iraq in late 2011 found that 51% of Iraqi Muslims said they were Shia (compared with 42% saying they were Sunni), while 6% called themselves just Muslims. So stop being so biased, this is why Wikipedia is not considered reliable source of information.

False. The CIA World Facebook updated April 2021 says that’s Shias are between 65-69% Shias. And that’s the lowest estimates.

You need to stop editing this page and inputting false information. https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/iraq/ JasonMoore (talk) 03:53, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is no right or "false" here, just two conflicting sources, both of them by organizations that normally provide reliable information. According to WP:DUE, we have to present both. BTW: IPs have the right to edit. --Rsk6400 (talk) 14:31, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also why is CIA being accepted as a credible source. They (USA) clearly have a dog in the fight. Everyone knows that everything south of Baghdad is Shia while north is Sunni, moreover, everything in south east is shia and everyone in the west is sunni.. if we do simple population estimates we can see that the country is almost equally divided. NO calculation puts Sunnies below 40%. Best example of demographic misrepresentation can be observed in case of Afghanistan. Where it was estimated that 60-65% of the population was pashtun by russians, then at the time of american invasion it was claimed by CIA World Facebook that pashtuns were almost as many as Tajiks (Around 30% !!). now that number has been revised to 42-45% percent.. i believe it will be brought back to 60% once Americans leave. 101.50.109.124 (talk) 19:34, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to have this page protected from vandalism.[edit]

Although there are sources aplenty - we are having non-accounts editing sourced material.

The percentages are clear and here is the latest source for that (Updated April 2021): https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/iraq/ JasonMoore (talk) 03:54, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This page should be protected, it’s constantly vandalised. All the given sources show the Shia population of Iraq at c.65%, while Sunni at c.30-35%. The CIA Facebook for 2021 even states that.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2406:e003:868:e201:3c9d:40e5:c4a6:2d0b (talkcontribs) 00:34, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
