Controversies[edit]

Should the article not note that the University practices discriminatory admission policies, by refusing to accept Bahai students? Sen McGlinn (talk) 16:06, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism at Islamic Azad University[edit]

On February 14th, 2012 it was reported in the Toronto Star that Pouya Derakhshan-Barjoei from Islamic Azad University committed plagiarism of a research paper for the Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2004. Professor Derakhshan-Barjoei may have committed plagiarism in other cases as well, and he may not have been disciplined by his colleagues at IAU for this offense. This should probably be noted in the main article. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1130885--ryerson-professor-s-work-plagiarized-by-iranian-academics?bn=1

Comments on merge (2007)[edit]

I disagree with the merge. Please see Max Planck Institutes. Sangak 13:53, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What does MPI have to do with this? (I looked at the article and the discussion page for it with no enlightenment) Natebailey 13:01, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Azad Universites are a number of seperate (partially independent) universities with similar structures. It is natural to have a separate page for each of them and one for the network. Max Planck institutes have also each a separate page. The former is another example of a network of scientific institutes under one umbrella name.Sangak 13:33, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The universities in Tehran provine for example:

  1. Islamic Azad University of Firouzkouh
  2. Islamic Azad University of Islamshahr
  3. Islamic Azad University of Karaj
  4. Islamic Azad University of Roodehen
  5. Islamic Azad University of Tehran-North
  6. Islamic Azad University of Tehran-South
  7. Islamic Azad University of Tehran-Central
  8. Islamic Azad University of Tehran-Medical Sciences
  9. Islamic Azad University of Tehran-Region one
  10. Islamic Azad University of Varamin

Similarly for Isfahan, Mashhad, Tabriz and Shiraz among others. Sangak 17:15, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They should not merge. IAU-Mashad is a campus of IAU, just as UT Austin is a branch of The University of Texas system. 04:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I disagree with the merge also. of course they all are Islamic Azad University but with different presidents and in different cities and... totally differnt universities they must have separate pages. Joojoo ra , 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't have a viewpoint on this, but what I suggest you do is grow this article to be the "parent" article for the system, ie. with overview content for each campus (eg. see State_University_of_New_York). As the content on this page grows, it would be appropriate to fork it off into sub-articles, so that over time, you will develop the approach you propose above. This would seem to be a better approach than having 10+ stub articles with as little content as this one? Natebailey 23:24, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Islamic Azad University logo.gif[edit]

Image:Islamic Azad University logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Enrolment: Cumulative or current?[edit]

I am aware (from World's largest universities) that some universities provide an enrolment figure indicating their total enrolment since the university was established (= cumulative, ie. adding the students from each year to a total, and providing the total). Wikipedia pages tend to report the current students actively enrolled (ie. students who are studying/being assessed in the current calendar year). Do you know which figure the enrolment for this university is? And do you have a more up-to-date figure? Thanks! Natebailey 23:24, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File:Islamic Azad University Central Tehran Branch.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Islamic Azad University Central Tehran Branch.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request
